I am having problems with dry eyes when using my PC and was wondering if anyone here might have any suggestions for me. My eyes get dry real quick when I'm using my PC and all the eye drops (GenTeal- preservative free) only provide limited, temporary relief. I also notice after about 10-15 minutes on the computer, that I start to get anxious and weak if on it long enough.
I have tried just about everything I can think of to solve the dry eye problem. I have replaced my 19" CRT monitor w/ a 17" LCD monitor. The eyes are no better and I think the anxious feeling began on the LCD. I've covered up the light coming thru the windows to stop glare, little to no help. I've seen my opthomalogist 4 times, he's given me computer glasses and told me to keep using eye drops. My primary doctor ran tests on my blood and everything came back fine. He mentioned maybe seeing a nuerologist, but really wasn't sure where to send me for further evaluation.
I've thought about trying a 15" monitor, but am reluctant to spend even more money on something that may not work. One thing seems weird, though, I've used the computer at work and haven't noticed these problems. Although, I don't usually spend more than 5-10 minutes on it. Otherwise, I'm kind of at a loss as to where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Pat

Have you thought of using some sort of electromagnetic shield (see Gregory's posts for details)?

Could there be another factor involved, such as the air quality in your house, near the computer? I know that molds are very high this time of year in many parts of the country. Where are you located? I'm in Southern California and the molds here have been driving people crazy the last month or so. Just a thought. Any new animals on the premises?

That's possible, I guess. I just swept & dusted the apartment a couple days ago and that hasn't seemed to helped, though. It was quite dusty in spots. If there are molds around, how do I get rid of them?
Thanks,
Pat

I think I tried that when I was using my 19" CRT monitor, but it didn't help.

Hi,Pat.
Have you studied your position at home (as regards your eyes and the screen angle to them) ergonomically? The library hasa books about this subject, with diagrams. The screen needs to be on an upward slant down close to your keyboard--a position few of them have. If you have to look up at all to see the screen, your eyes are more exposed to the air and if you can look down all the time, less exposed.

Mine is mainly paperback romance novels, 80s pop CDs and out of date encyclopedias.
I think you should blend your next book with romantic elements so that it will make it to my library. I can see it now-- "Rosalind wiped the sweat from her 20 minute cardiovascular workout that she did three times a week and winked suggestively at Beaufert. He rebounded over to her and asked 'May I buy you a kefir?' "

Well, the top of the monitor was about at eye level or just below, so I thought your suggestion might work. However, upon placing the monitor level w/ the keyboard and on an upward slant, I still have the same problems w/ dry eyes and feeling weak/anxious during use. I also have "foggy brain" symptoms after use. Could it be the size of the monitor?(17" LCD).
Thanks,
Pat

Thanks, Jealous.
My first grin of the day!
So far as I know, my local library is just one of the network of public libraries in this country.
Namaste`

Hi,Pat.
It will take you about a month to see if this change in positioning of the monitor will help.
