Spots under eyelids

Posted by Jim on January 08, 2003 at 05:26:21:

I have one white-headed spot under my top left eyelid (If i lift the lid away from the eye I can see the spot about 5 mm away from the edge of the lid) and at least 1 other under one of my right eyelids. Both make it feel like there is something in my eye when I blink.

The pain doesnt begin until later in the day, generally sometime in the afternoon and its always worst in the evening.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, Jim.

These are cysts of the meibomian glands that are located on the back side of the little cartilege plate in the upper lid.

Any ophthalmologist can surgically remove these under topical anesthesia in her office. IF you continue to get more, let us know since there are some things you can do to prevent them.

Let us know how you do.

I went to the doctor who prescribed me with some Antibiotic eye drops containing Fusidic Acid but I've been taking them for about a week now with no improvement. Is there anything I can do to prevent them from occurring in the future?

Thanks, Jim.

The odds are poor that the antibiotic drops will resolve this but it was probably worth a try.

What did the doc say caused this or, like most allopaths, was he not the least concerned about the cause?

Without seeing it and examining you I would not know why this happened. Allergy is the most common cause. Irritating contacts are probably the second most common cause.

Let us know what you learn.
