retinal trauma

My 12 year old nephew was hit in his right eye with a paintball on 9/7/03. The docs say that his macula and retina were damaged. We've been frantically doing as much online research as possible, and so I'm here to see if anybody has any leads or information regarding this type of injury and possible stories of others recovering from this type of trauma. Thank you.

Hi, Marko.

Was he wearing protective goggles?

Now that the damage has occurred, ophthalmological care and, if he were mine, I would have him taking at least 200 milligrams of CoEnzyme Q10 twice a day, at least 2000 milligrams of esterified vitamin C twice a day, at least 1000 milligrams of vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) once a day, 100 milligrams of zinc a day and 2000 milligrams of omega 3 fish oils twice a day till healing has plateued for a few months.

None of these can hurt him and they all are antioxidents (free-radical scavengers).

Most traumatic damage to the eye comes from the production of free-radicals at the site of injury over the next week or so.

Let us know how he does.

Walt
