Broken blood vessels in the eye

Please help me. I get broken blood vessels in my eye about once every 2 months. I can tell when it is coming if I am awake because the actual area on the eye hurts and is very tender. The redness is in the white part of my eye and localized. I do suffer from migraines and when this happens I do get BIG ones. They happen at random. I can be watching TV and it just comes on. It has happened while I was sleep and the pain woke me up. I'm getting concerned because of the frequency of the broken blood vessels. The pain linger for days. I have a very slight eyeglass prescription for reading only. I have been faithful in wearing them because I didn't want it to contribute the the problem. Should I see a doctor?

Hi, Sherry.

These kind of broken vessels are never dangerous for visual problems. They do, however, indicate that this is happening in every part of your body. Your white part of the eye is just an easy place to see it!

You can resolve this by taking 3 grams of pure bioflavinoids a day for a month or so. THEN, when this stops happening, start by cutting the dose in half for a few months and then in half again. When the problem starts recurring you know that you should have not made the last cut in dosage. There is NO WAY this can harm you. The only reason for cutting the dose is for expense purposes.

HOWEVER, this is probably not the actual cause. The bioflavinoids are just a way to stop it happening while you look for the cause. The first step in THAT direction is to deal with the causes of your migraines. Start by reading how to get rid of the pain on the homepage about headaches.

Next, start with the archives about migraines.

As you progress, ask any questions here on the BB so as to help others with similar problems.

Walt
