hemorrhage in my infats eye

Ever since my son was 3 weeks old he would have
hemorrhages in the white parts of his eye. He was born
C-section so I know it wasn't from the birth. After asking
neumrous Drs about it and getting nowhere, I took him
to a opthomologist.

By the time he was seen, 8 1/2 months old, he only had
one little red cappilary left and the Dr. said that it just
looks like an abnormal cappilary- and he can see just
fine. His eyes were only clear for about a month and a
half when one eye hemorrhaged realy bad-around the
retina on the inside, behind the eyelids, and on the
outside all the way back. He was sick and the Dr. said
that it was not related at all so I took him to another
Opthomologist and he wasn't sure, but he thought he
had lymphangiomas so he ordered a CT scan of his
orbits w/out the contrast.

They didn't see anything on the scan and when the Dr.
called me he said it was clear but he still THINKS he
MAY have lymphangiomas but doesn't want to run any
more tests?-wait and see. My son is 10 months old
now and his eye is just about healed from this last
episode. When it healed, it healed like a bruise on the
inside (turning yellow and all bumpy) and faded away in
the other areas. While fadding another spot showed up
then cleared. When his eyes are clear they look faintly
bloodshot-never bright white like my daughters.

My son seems heathly, he is in the upper 90th
percentile in his weight and head circumfrence. The
only unusual thing that we have noticed (being that he
is our second child) is that from birth to 7 months he
would scream so hard he would pass out- now he
sometimes screams and clenches his fists for no
apparent reason, and the other thing was I used to see
a weird film like thing over his eyes-clear but gasoline
like or oil like. That went away after his eyes cleared up
the first time.

I don't know what to do now, I'm worried that this may
be symptomatic of something else and if we wait or let
it go it may damage his eyes or something else.

Should I push the Drs to do further tests or let it go?
Do you have any idea what could be causing this to
happen?

Thank you

Hi, Cindi.

First some reassurance that this kind of hemorrhage will not affect his eyesight. Your docs should have already told you that.

Next, this tells me that this child has a genetic need for a lot more bioflavinoids than the rest of us. Since bioflavinoids are totally non-toxic, if he were mine, I would immediately start him on about 500 milligrams of pure bioflavinoids (Be careful, ALL in the healthfood stores are heavily diluted.) Adults need about 3000 milligrams for this trial of therapy.

IF this is the problem, you will notice the hemorrhages stopping within about a month and none will recur as long as you keep up this dose (likely many times what he really will need for the rest of his life to prevent this).

Then, when you are sure that he is having no more, cut the dose in half. Although he could continue on the full dose forever without harm, your pocketbook would suffer. IF he has had no recurrances in about 6 months, cut the dose in half again. Eventually you will see recurrance and you will know that you need to go back to the higher dose when you cut it last.

Let us know how he does.

Walt
