Hello. I am 18 years old and have had a chronic red-eye problem. I have been to my doctor about this and an eye doctor in regards to it, but neither doctors seem to know whats going on. My eye doctor prescribed Patanol, thinking it could be allergies, but after several weeks of using it, nothing has changed. It is very embarassing to have my eyes this red. I DO NOT use drugs or anything on those lines, so I can rule those out immediately as being a cause. Also, for some reason 2 weeks ago the size of my pupils have doubled in size. I thought it would go away, but nothing has happened. It's akward having my pupils this big...people think I look like an owl. About 2 months ago I was put on Wellbutrin, but the pupils didn't seem to get larger until over a month later. The other strange thing is that it happened over night and nothing was out of the ordinary the day before.
...Please give any advice on how I could relieve these irritating and embarassing symptoms.
Thanks,
Jason

I don't have an answer for you, but both the red eyes and the dilated pupils make you look like you're on drugs. Dilated pupils happen when you take hallucinogens and opiates. Watch out for the narcs at school, dude.
I do know that often side effects from drugs (like Wellbutrin) can take up to a month or more to show up. I took Neurontin for about six weeks before it started making me anxious. If you're worried, stop taking the medicine and see if it helps.

Hi, Jason.
Your most likely diagnosis is Iritis (which is hard to diagnose before the pupil dilates). See your ophthalmologist again (soon) and he will be a little embarassed that he missed the diagnosis the first time he saw you. This is a serious diagnosis and needs conventional treatment.
If this is NOT iritis, you might look into "EyeBright" by Dr Christopher. It is available in healthfood stores. You might have to ask the proprietor.
Also listen to Beth (Thanks. Beth.)
