My five year old son has a small bump on the white of his eye, and a small area around it has has a lot of blood vessels showing. I took him to the doctor and she said he has pink eye and a stye and perscribed sulfacetamide sodium solution. I have looked all over the internet and a stye is defined as being on the eye lid not the actual eye and it doesn't look like or have symptoms of pink eye such burning or discharge. In fact he never said anything about his eyes bothering him at all (He is a complainer and if his eye bothered him, trust me he would have said something.) Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before? I would greatly appreciate any input anyone can give me.
Thanks, Michelle

Hi, Michelle.
Your doctor is a careless practitioner and it would serve you well to find another. Even without seeing this I can tell you that this is a phynectenulum (if it is right at the edge of the iris and where the lids come together) and there is no treatment necessary. I can guarantee you that the antibiotic prescription will do nothing.
This IS unusual in a child this age and you should watch it closely to see that it does not grow. Look it up in any good color, ophthalmological atlas. If it does, see an Ophthalmologist.
Let us know what you learn.
