Recently diagnosed with ocular histoplasmosis - Vision loss

Posted by Brenda Slaughter on June 04, 1998 at 14:36:06:

Hello Dr. Stoll,

Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with ocular histoplasmosis. Laser surgery was done immediately. Presently, I have vision loss and it appears that in the area where the surgery took place, it looks kind of transparent and very distorted. I am very concerned and am wondering if it could be
spreading. This transparent area is adjacent to the large dark gray spot, left of my center of vision.

Also, I did not receive ANY information from the surgeon, other than there was no cure; nor was I was shown a model of the eye to explain what was happening!!

A moment ago, I searched the Internet and found the National Eye Institute's Fact Sheet on POHS. It is very discouraging...especially the excerpt that stated-- if it's in one eye, it is very likely it will affect the other eye. Needless to say, this has really upset me.

I am a recently divorced mother with a nine year-old daughter. I am afraid. How can you help me????

Thank you so very much for your time.

Dear Brenda,

The only option I know of for you is for you (while you can still see) to become an expert in a serious wellness program--right away! You will have to work at being healthy the rest of your life if you do not want a recurrence. Start with the link:
How to be Healthy

The specific protocols are in a section of my book (link on this page) along with references about each part of the protocol.

In the meantime, if it were me, I would be taking the following (which has no risk--you will notice visual improvement within a few days to weeks): at least 400 units of vitamin E daily, 2000 milligrams of esterified vitamin C twice a day, 100 milligrams of elemental zinc daily and 100 milligrams of Coenzyme Q 10 twice a day. This will not cure anything but will help preserve what function you still have till the wellness can take hold.

As you get well, please share your experiences with the bb participants. Although this is still an uncommonn condition, it is becoming MORE common. Others deserve to know, by your example, that the conventional medical monopoly is not tellling people of all of their options.

Walt
