Fasting summnary:

Fasting is an ancient and time honored way of rejuvenating the body mind. It is now known that, at least it helps detoxify our system.

Fasting is NOT starvation. In starvation the person never knows whether they will EVER get anything to eat again and so the stress of the situation TOTALLY changes the hormonal response to the absence of food and causes accelerated damage.

In fasting the person knows they can always go to the refrigerator at any moment snd stop the fast. The lack of stress creates a totally different metabolic milieu and creats health rather than illness.

Any fast less than 4 days is not likely to demonstarte the benefits to the person since it takes 3 days to get past the withdrawal and acute detoxification symptoms. After the 4 days, the most insidious symptom is boredom NOT HUNGER--which disappears about the 4th day. When your body begins to demand food (usually about 2 weeks) it is time to gradually reinstitute light foods.

There are many good books out there about fasting. Mostly, they are short and inexpensive since it is hard to fill much space on such a simple subject.

Basically, I would not recommend a water fast the first few times one tries doing this. The best kind of fasting for the beginner is fresh vegetable juice (stuff you juice yourself and drink immediately) fasting. THEN, as you become an expert, consider a water fast.

Be sure to take plenty of plain metamucil-like stuff twice a day to keep your bowels soft.
