Juicing

Posted by Dahlimama on October 03, 2002 at 21:36:47:

Would juicing be considered a whole food?

No.

Whole foods means that you don't take anything away...juicing usually removes most of the fiber.

That's not to say that juicing doesn't have a place in a healthy diet. It depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what your problems are.

Thanks, I'm thinking it might be better to just use a blender with some water and keep the fiber. But, I suppose it is all about what you're trying to do.

We are considering getting a Vita Mix blender because of that- it is not supposed to be a great juicer per se, but for my purposes, to keep it whole, I'd prefer to keep the fiber somehow while liquifying whatever I'm "juicing".

Your idea sounds good, too.

Doesn't juicing require a lot of fruits or vegetables just to make one glass? If so, is it worth it? It's probably just better to eat the stuff.

I tried the blender thing it works well. I have also tried juice from a Vitamix can't say that I saw any difference in consistency. However, I know the Vitamix will do a lot of other things, but for this purpose, it's about the same. If you buy the Vitamix be sure to get the higer powered version. I tried the less expense one and found it to be no more than a glorified blender,so I returned it.

Just a heads up.

Like Labrat says, it depends on what you are juicing for. Iíve excerpted from Gary Nullís book, The Joy of Juicing (2001) (in italics):

For the first time, a large number of people following a very specific protocol proved that individuals could slow down, and in some cases reverse disease by using a wellnees model. By changing their eating habits, increasing exercise, and managing stress better (sounds a lot like Dr. Stollís three legged wellness stool), the participants were able to affect tremendous improvement in their health and also set the stage for a whole new consciousness.

The cornerstone to the dietary approach (leg) to change is cleansing and detoxifying. The next step is healthier cells Ė actually repairing damaged DNA. You can repair cellular damage simply by using nature Ė if you access natural substances in the right quantities. Juicing and a live food diet are the heart of the program. Live food (this does not necessarily mean raw food) includes grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. And juicing is absolutely essential. Even if you improve your diet radically and take all the right supplements, while youíll be getting some measure of preventive benefit, you still wonítí be doing enough to reverse existing damage. Add juicing to the mix, though, and you can actually begin to repair damage. Juicing is the key to reversing the progress of disease.

The green juices cleanse and detoxify the body, while the reds facilitate the repair of DNA. The ultimate healing ingredients are the chlorophyll, the myriad phyto-chemicals, the antioxidants, and the trace elements that are part of all the fresh organic juices.

His juicing program starts with one 12 oz glass a day for the first month and is increased incrementally to six months when you are at six glasses a day.

Thanks Blondie for reminding us all;
I love vegetable juice and what i love the most about it is the vital life force you get from it when you drink it within 5 min. You also get a boast in vit. and minerals and it really helps a person to turn around there p.h.; We use it in detoxing people at the Wellness Ranch [especially good for our cancer patients] and it is great to add to a healthy food plan to get all your vegetables required for the day when one is out and around and can't seem to get enough good vegetables when eating out. I love how i feel after it, i just take psyillum seed ground up for the fiber. There is so many benifits to it, i can't hardly believe a person would question it; Try it you might like the effects! If you have never done a 10 day fast with just water and vegetable juice it is a fantastic expierence. Of course doing everything with intuition is also very important and getting in touch with it takes an open mind;

Upon Fasting on Vegetable juices and Water;
When starting a fast it is important to eat lightly like eating soups and vegetables and little rice and then the day of the fast you start with distilled water large glass, upon awakening and then wait at least one hour and drink veggie juice adding your [herbs and parsley] celery, zuccini, carrot, spanich and bell pepper and cumcumber [unless you can't handle some of these]; Many people get off on the 3rd day of there fast or 4th and that is the most important day to detox the body, so it is better to let the body go thru the toxin release and withdrawl from food and keep going to the 8th day at least; When getting off it is important to come of again only on light foods or soups the first day or two; By the 5th day on the fast one starts to expierence a clear mind and a body free of many aches and pains [most often] A person can feel full of energy, by the 6th or 7th day and never hungry on the juice fasting after the 4th day of the fast; I know i always feel on top of the world!
I would recommed a person to do several enima's or colonics well doing fast also, to keep colon detoxing also; I feel most all of us need to be on some kind of a fast off heavy foods once a year at least and this is one of the safest and healthy ways to do it and have plenty of minerals and vit. flooding your body; I hope i explained it enough, everyone has a different expierence, but always feels a freedom after words and can feel what the effects of eating wrong did. [which is an education in itself]; [water also should be in fast every 2.00 hours at least;

Juicing is the way to better health. But, did you know that we have to have 5-9 servings of FRESH RAW fruits and vegetables every day? Expensive and most people do not like to drink their nutrition.. Juice Plus is the only way! I have been on it for 2 months now and my digestive system has already got better. I have been to every gastroenterologist and had every test possible done on me. I do not digest my food properly because of lacking digestive enzymes. Juice Plus has clinical proof that it works. Most vitamins do not. E-mail me. Thanks..Nita

It allows your body to direct all of its energy toward detoxification and healing, because no energy is spent on digestion. Also, it provides nutrition which is very easily assimilated and better utilized by the body. P.S.: Be sure to dring LOTS of water during a fast, because this will lessen any detoxification reaction (known as the 'Herkimer Reaction.' Be Well, Donna.
