I have recently been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. My doctor wants to put me on Rezulin b/c my Glucose Tolerance Test showed that I am insulin resistant. I KNOW that this in the long term will only be cured by SR. I have been doing it religiously for only 2 weeks now. What I want to know is....what is your thought on taking the medicine to get my system jumpstarted?

I just found this site, and I too have PCOS and have been told to try Rezulin. I am nervous to do so, and wondered how it has gone with you since you were put on it. The weight issue is a big one with me and I cannot find any information about whether Rezulin can cause more weight gain or whether it can help a person lose weight easier. I am already on a high protein food plan. Would appreciate any info you could share. Thanks.

Hi, Darlene.
PCOS is associated with chronic C-RS. This has been discussed several times on this BB. Put a note on the BB and mention Bill Stoll in the title. Perhaps he can tell us where this information is filed.
Go to the glosasry for any unfamiliar terms.

I have been on rezulin for one year because of PCOS. The PCOS was causing my hair to thin and high blood glucose levels.
The rezulin has worked wonders. I now have a full head of hair again, my bg levels are terrific and my mood swings have just about disappeared.
I get my hepatic blood tests checked and everything is fine.
Rezulin has really worked wonders for me.

I WAS UNOFFICALLY DIAGNOSIS WITH PCOS ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO, AND HAD CONFERMATION THAT MY SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS WERE ACCTUALLY PCOS ONE YEAR AGO. AFTER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DOCTOR AND HOSPITAL BILLS. MY CONFERMATION CAME WHEN AFTER TWO YEARS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO GET PREGNANT, AT THIS POINT i WAS PUT ON CLOMID. AFTER A YEAR OF THIS TREATMENT I MOVED ON TO HARD CORE FERTILITY METHODS WITH NO SUCCESS. MY DOCTOR HAS NOE PUT ME ON REZULIN TO HELP SLOW THE SIDE EFFECTS OF PCOS.
AFTER RESEARCHING REZULIN, I GOT POSITIVE REVIEWS ON ITS AFFECT WITH PCOS PATIENTS. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT HER OFFICE HAS HAD OVER A 90% SUCCESS RATE IN MAKING THE TROUBLESOME SIDE EFFECT VERY MILD AND MANAGEABLE. BUT SHE DID WARN ME ON HIGH INCIDENT OF POSSIBLE LIVER DAMAGE. HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE YOUR SCHEDULED LIVER ENZYMES CHECKED. EVERY DOCTOR IS DIFFERENT ON THER PROTOCAL AS TO HAVE OFFIN. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS MEDICATION, I FOUND THAT MOST OF THE INFROMATION SUGGESTED TO HAVE LIVER ENZYMES CHECKED TWICE DURING THE FIRST MONTH OF THERAPY. THEN EVERY MONTH AFTERWARD FOR SIX MONTHS. FORM THERE IF ALL TESTS COME BACK NORMAL TO HAVE THEM CHECKED EVERY SIX MONTHS.
SO FAR IN MY RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT REZULIN HAS SOME DRUG CONTRAINDICATIONS. THE FIRST ONE GEING ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES:COMBINING SOME TYPES OF CONTRACEPTIVES REDUCE PLASMA CONCENTRATIONS OF BOTH DRUG. TERFENADINE TAKEN WITH REZULIN CAN ALSO DECREASE LEVELS OF BOTH DRUGS. THIRD, CHOLESTRAMINE WHEN TAKEN WITH REZULIN COULD REDUCE PLASMA CONTRATIONS OF REZULIN BY 70%
AS FOR SIDE EFFECTS OF REZULIN, IN ALL MY HANDOUTS THE MAJOR EFFECT BEING LIVER DAMAGE. KEEP IN MIND THAT WITH THE REQUIRED LIVER ENZYMES CHECK,LIVER DAMAGE WILL BE IN LOW OCCURANCE.OTHER SIDE EFFECTS I HAD FOUND ABOUT REZULIN INCLUDE {LISTING THEM FROM HIGH OCCURANCE TO LOW} INFECTION, HEADACHE,PAIN,ACCIDENTAL INJURY,ASTHENIA, DIZZINESS, BACK PAIN, NAUSEA, RHINITIS, DIARRHEA, URINARY TRACT INFECTION,PERIPHERAL EDMA, AND PHARYNGITIS. OTHER SIDE EFFECTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED SINCE REZULIN'S RELEASE INCLUDE CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE, WEIGHT GAIN, EDEMA, FEVER, ABNORMAL LAB TESTS INCLUDING INCREASED CPK AND CREATINE, HYPERGLYCEMIA, SYNCOPE, ANEMIA, AND MALAISE. BUT TAK INTO CONSIDERATION THIS COMPLAINTS HAVE NOT BEEN FULLY ESTABLISHED.
AFTER I HAVE BEEN ON THE DRUG FOR A LONGER PEROID OF TIME OR I FIND MORE INFORMATION, I WILL GET BACK TO YOU.

Hi, Andrea.
The technical questions you have are only answerable by the prescribing physician. You have to ask and not leave until you are satisfied with the explanations.
THIS BB is about what you can do to get rid of the causes of your PCOS and infertility, NOT about just treating their symptoms. 40 years ago both these conditions were rare and now thay are common. Have you ever wondered about why that might be?
Practicing "wellness" seriously (see the article on the homepage and the archives) usually resolves this entire complex in 1-2 years. You would be wise to read Dr. Paavo Ariola's classic "Every Woman's Book" (available via the link on this 'site to amazon.com) If both the mother and father reads this book, and practices what they learned, at least 2 years before conception, they would resolve nearly every case of infertility and assure the healthiest pregnancy and baby yet known to science.
Let us know what you learn.

I was put on Rezulin about 4 months ago, and no other treatment has been offered to me other than this one? Has anyone tried anything else and if so has it worked? I'm not trying to get pregnant, but I would like to have that as a future option.
