any relation between smoking marijuana and unable to have children?

Posted by Molly on July 30, 2003 at 14:18:18:

My friends daughter has smoked marijuana for several years now along with her husband. They have been to fertility doctors and are unable to get pregnant. I told her it was because she and he smoked on a regular basis. Anyone ever heard of this?

Nope, never heard of it. I live in a area that a large number of people smoke pot and it doesnt seem to keep the population down around here.

you can't trust what is written about marijuana. Few real studies have been done that are without predudice, and people are seldom honest about their use for fear of arrest.
I have four kids and I smoked it most of my youth. None of my friends had trouble having children either, and they smoked more than I. I think your reaction is a little bit knee-jerk. Lots and lots of things can cause infertility. The most likely culprits are pesticides, polution, GMO's, and medicines for high blood pressure and the like, assuming of course that it caused by an outside source. If your daughter had bad or irregular periods, it may simply be a difference in hormone levels than you. The reason DDT is illegle is that it made the eggshells of birds too soft to hold the chick. Many researchers feel that DDT was also responsible for human miscariages. Pesticides alone have probably caused many couples difficulty concieving. IF your son-in-law's jeans are tight, that too can lessen his sperm count.

I've smoked regularly for most of my life and have 2 beautiful children, both healthy and fine. I did NOT smoke during either pregnancy, so don't even go there.

Hi, Molly.

Anyone can be hypersensitive to ANY environmental toxin and THC is one of the more than 500,000 known ones.

My first suggestion would be for both of you to read Dr Paavo Airola, ND's classic "Every Woman's Book" and institute the suggestions at least 2 years prior to conception.

Just to be on the safe side, in case either of you are especially sensitive to this effect from Mary Jane, it might be prudent to stop till the baby is born. I would especially be sure to give it up DURING the pregnancy. Since the most sensitive time for the fetus is in the first 3 months, and you may not even know you are pregnant until then...........

Let us know how you do.

Walt

Well, I AM going to go there. I'm not anti-pot. I just know that "some" people that I grew up with and we all smoked it a lot, could not have children for whatever reasons. This one couple decided to quit for a while just to see. They quit for 5 years and finally had a son. They returned to smoking pot and for several years. Then they wanted another child. After many years, they stopped again, smoking, and after 3 years, they had a girl. She never took any type of birth control. She once again started smoking after her 2nd child was born. So, decide for yourself. She is certain that it helped cause her infertility but thank you for your input. There have been a lot of normal, beautiful children born to mothers who smoked pot a lot.

I personally do not smoke marijuana but i hav friends that do.I have one friend who is now 28 and has smoked pot since she was 13 and she has 3 children. and all of my other friends who smoke have children also. so no I do not think that weed has a side affect like that. After all marijuana is all natural put on earth by God for some reason. and cigarettes are man made with all kinds of toxins added to it. So who do you trust? God or Man?
