Does Blastocystis make this symptoms?

Posted by Mara on December 17, 2002 at 03:36:33:

Dear Dr. Stoll
first please excuse my english, I'm reaching you from switzerland. I'm desesperate about my health. I read some of the postings and am suspecting you could help me.
My questions are followings:

1. Does Blastocysits hom. make the kind of symptoms I have?(described at the end of questions)

2. My Dr. wants me to take Flagyl. Is this the right therapy for this kind of parasites?

3. Could there be other parasites - really - damaging my health (and causing the kind of symptoms I have?) but yet not prooved in my stool? (standard analyses made: amoba and lamblia neg.)
Besides blood analsys gave low ferritin and a hypothyreosis, which both have been treatet but symptoms still last.

4. Very important: What further analysis do you recommend should be made?

5. Can I get rid of Blastocysis and the others with "soft" medicaments?

6. Where do you get Blastocystis? (I was on a Deserttrip with low hygenic conditions before i got sick)

Here are my symptoms:
Its now exactly one year that I'm suffering from different s. It startet with a sinusitis which lastet for 4 months, accompanied by extreme sensation of coldness. Also I was sweating a lot, which made frosting bigger. Antibiotics (avalox) didnt help. Since then I 've always having sometimes festering from the nose in the morning. 12 months of extreme weakness and tiredness, again and again the feeling like im going to have a cold (headache, giddiness, temperature shlightly increased), low concentration and exhausing when doing only a few things (even only strong thinking). Backache of different types: Neckache with pain in the shoulder and head, lowback pain and a pain between the shoulder-bones which feel like a wound and knifes stabbing in the back (increasing when tension increases. not one night slept through, sometimes only sleeping 2-3h because of the different pains. As well since I have this sickness, I am very thirsty and need to drink at night (which I never did before!!), and of course running several times a night to the closet. I cant work anymore, since dont even have the force to raise my arm.
I just cant believe that all this is "only" psychic!
It feels like fibromyalgy or CFS.....or what could it be?
Clinical results are:
lots of blastocysits (not yet treated), ferritin low and hypothyreosis (both treatet)

I thank you a lot in advance for your commitment and help.
best whishes
What could leaky gut syndrom be in german?

Hi, Mara.

First, I suggest you go to the medical school library and read everything they have about this organism. For example, 12% of ALL stools randomly submitted for analysis, found BH. Most of these were asymptomatic. In approximately 2/3 of those positive stools, BH was the only parasite found. For years, this organism was considered to be the least pathogenic organism in the colon. It still is conisidered very mild and is mainly an indication of dysbiosis (see the archives).

The only way you could be sure of how many parasites you may have would be to send a specimen to Niger, Africa's imperial laboratory (which has the reputation of the highest accuracy). Your doc can find out how to do that if he will.

Personally I doubt that your symptoms are due (at least totally) to parasitic infestation.

I would suggest you first start recording your temperature before arising, before lunch, before dinner and at bedtime for a week or so. If you can find out what your eosinophile count (part of a CBC) is, that would help.

By the way metronidazole (Flagyl) is the best drug for this one.

Though my ancestors were German, I have no idea what LGS would be in German.

How old are you and have you been checked (properly--see the archives) for diabetes?

So far this sounds like fibromyalgia to me (see the archives as to what it is and what to do about it). My suggestion would be to do serious wellness since no matter what this is, that would help.

Now to the questions:

1. Rarely.
2. Yes.
3. Yes, See above and the parasitic archives.
4. Niger. Temperature graph.
5. By dealing with dysbiosis (see archives).
6. You might have had a higher exposure in the desert but BH is everywhere. Evolution has prepared us not to "get" it by millions of years of developing a resistant ecology in our gut.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Thanks a lot Walt for for the prompt anwser!
I will follow all your suggestions (and hope i wont get confused to much - (since I fight keeping my concentration)

I am 35, and I was checked for diabetes (neg)(I will see if properly)

I dont think my Dr. is going to send specimen to Niger...the theme parasites is laid down as soon as I take Flagyl. But I fear I'm going to have big secondary effects as I feel so weak. And if there is no apparent relation between my symptoms and BH. Am I right with my preoccupation?

I couldnt find the word eosinophil in the dictionary, what could it be in german? Has it something to do with the bloodbodies? If I have Disbyosis I have also LGS?
If you say "do proper wellness"? what is meant by that?(because it's very difficult to know what is welldoing)

thank you again
greetings from switzerland
Mara

Thanks, Mara.

In response to your questions: eosinophiles are a type of white blood cell that becomes more common with parasites. Every complete blood count (CBC) has an eosinophile count.

Dysbiosis frequently follows LGS but CAN precede it.

I am afraid you might be right in your "preoccupation".

Thanks for answering!
I made a search in internet, now I know whats eosinophil - and it was not checked in my case. Only Leukocytes in general.(5,5 Giga/l = within the reference of 4 - 9). I will see for a Dr. to do the necessary differential diagnosis....and then I'll tell you the result.

Would it be recommandable for me to be checked for candida and klebsiella?

Reading more and more of this website, I'm slowly getting into the topic of relation between the things...and its sounds VERY interessting (since i'm biologist have vicinity to scientific themes)
...WELL, I've already started to reduce (target:eliminate) refinded sugar. I eat dates if go into that sugar-junkie-mood (hoping thats better than chocolate)... I'm waiting for your book to cross the sea and to complete the "therapy"

Well I asked to fast for candidatest.
I found two very interessting test under following links:

http://www.adhdrelief.com/CandidaTest.html
and
http://www.mrbean.net.au/~wlast/candidatest.html

the first test works just with your spit in a glass of water!
I will check it tomorrow!

Hi!
I would like to know, if that candida test which works with spit (http://www.adhdrelief.com/CandidaTest.html) is worth its name. If so, I have a big candidaproblem!

Which specimen has to be sent to the laboratory? Stool? Blood?
I'm asking because, I want it do be done properly. The mean thing I learned in this year- in which I saw 14 doctors- that methods and interpretation concernig the causes of my sicknes, diverge completely (up to 180 degrees.

greetings
Mara

Thanks, Mara.

Unless you have a lab that specializes in parasites, and send them at least 6 different purged stool specimens, the chances of them finding the parasites you have would be small.
