Hi, I am 43 and was diagnosed with fibro over 5 years ago. I have tried the diet, the drugs, but the don't seem to help. I keep trucking away- but sometimes I hurt so bad that I just set down & cry. And I seem to be worst on cold damp days, I just need to talk to someone else who feels what I feel, and I need suggestions for making life a little easier. I take anti-depressants both Effexor & wellbutrin every day and stil find myself sometimes curled up and crying. And now I am also fighting being overweight. So any and all help will be appreciated.

I would suggest trying things. Do you find Anything that
helps at all ?? In my case a multi vitamin, niacin, and
zinc helped and then Sundown brand MSM has almost solved
the problem except when I Really overdo it.

Cheryl, I have a friend that also has fibromyalgia and I have been trying to locate a program on this BB that was put on some months ago by someone named SHAPE. This program had lots of good information in it for stopping autoimmune diseases. If I find it I'll tell you were to locate it but as I remember it was about diet, colon cleansing and stress reduction.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Fibro patients often have low thyroid levels and thyroid patients often develop fibro. There is a theory that it might be the same disease process.

Read this web site. My fibro is much better than it was by following Dr. Stoll's three legged stool. 1) Light Exercise (30 minutes walking 3 days a week) 2) Dietary changes 3) Skilled Relxation. The biggest thing for me has been something I did just on my own: First thing in the morning I get up and stretch every muscle in my body. I put together a bunch of different stretches. And I feel sooooo much better when I do that. It gets the blood pumping into all my muscles. And even if I don't feel up to exercising in any way, I can still do the stretches, and they help so much. I'm sure yoga and tai chi would also help, btu just basic streching has made all the difference in the world. I'm not "cured" but this is a major improvement.

I am 58 years old and have been living with FMS for over 10 years. Two years ago I was told about the FMS after listening to doctors and chiropractors telling me I had stress related problems and spine out of line. None of this was true. Each year (day, week, month) brings new problems. I am a very active person and find that the more I do, the better I cope. Yes, I do have real pain, the 24-7 variety. I have taken every pain medication that the doctors have allowed me to take. I have not taken vitamins nor have any been recommended. I have had to leave 3 very good jobs because I cannot use my arms without suffering pain in my shoulders and neck muscles. I also have the pins and needles sensation, as well as the sharp shooting pain. I just quit the easiest job in the world, and I do not know what to do. I have been told not to even try to collect dissability, it would not be approved. I have a difficult time just reaching for my grandchildren. The pain clinic did not help at all. I have been told that 'yes, I will be living with this all my life'. I think it is wonderful that there are people who have been relieved of the pain. But, as I have been told, there are degrees to this disease and what works for one person will not work for another. The pressure points to be diagnosed with FMS was told to me to be 18..In just my shoulders alone I have had more than 30 at one time. I cannot find a doctor that really knows anything about this disease. Perhaps there is a future, but at this time I only know that I live in pain, and must keep going. My husband and family do not understand what I am talking about. They know I hurt, but do not realize to the extent. I don't mean to make anyone think I am feeling sorry for myself, because I do not. I just think there are a lot of people out there that are suffering from this and must know they are not alone. I do take a sleeping pill because FMS suffers do not sleep well, which makes the illness worse. I also take hot baths and sleep with a heating pad/ice pack alternating
I guess I am writing tonight because I have had a couple of very difficult days and sometimes just getting it off of your chest helps.

Rhea, Now that you have that off your chest, Seriously think about starting to eliminate the fibro and all other pains you have. It takes work and research, but most all you need is here in the archives. I was told I would have to take pain meds for rest of life for fibro, etc and etc. Now about 26 months after being told this, I have no pains that I know of, sleep in any position, and do lots of physical work every day, and take absolutely no pain meds. It is just fantastic. Rhea it is beatable, just put your mind to it. Good luck.

Rhea.
Why not do SR and just get rid of it with the massage series, Rolfing and Alexander Technique? See the archives about fibromyalgia and about bracing. See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.
THIS IS A TOTALLY UNNECESSARY CONDITION!
