Dr Stoll: My four year old has had a cough for..

Posted by bree [12447.2450] on December 01, 2008 at 08:20:26:

a month now!! I posted a couple weeks ago. I took her to her doc at that time and he said her lungs were fine, that the cough was from a sinus infection/drainage.. She still has no fever, just the congestion and a mostly productive sounding cough. She gets no dairy, and little wheat. I give good quality vitamins, rub her feet for reflexology sinus points, run the cool mist vaporizer at night.. etc.

Anything else I could try. Should I get a second opinion on her lungs?? Also her right side neck lymph is very swollen.

Thanks!

bree

Sounds like seasonal allergies but you may want to see the rest of her
diet - she could be allergic to something else, something as unique as
carrots or beans... soy, etc....

Have you tried a nasal spray like X-Clear? It's ok for children.

Bree,

Four year olds do not HAVE sinuses! For this to have hung on so long without any signs in the lungs means to me that this is probably a developing hypersensitivity to something in the environment. Since foods are the most likely (and the easiest to manipulate) I would begin by total eliminating dairy products and see what happens in a couple of weeks. The second most likely foodstuff to try is wheat and then, if still no beneficial results try a combination of both.

See the allergy archives.

Let us know how he does.

Walt

since she gets no dairy, eliminate ALL gluten grains-wheat, oats, rye, barley. Use only rice, amaranth, millet, quinoa and corn as your grains for a few weeks.

I give my 3 year old 1000mg of ester c daily. I asked the doc months ago and he said it was perfectly safe. I also have him avoid dairy as much as possible! Hope this helps. You should also cut out as much sugar from his diet as you can. Sugar weakens the immune system. I got all these from Dr. Stoll and my son has been free of his runny nose for 3 months now!

Michele,

Look it up in a developmental anatomy atlas. Sinuses begin to develop at about age 6, as I recall. Their developmant is one of the things that causes our voices to resonate (and thus change as we get older). Check it out and let us know what you learn.

Walt
