Marfan syndrome and neck goita

Posted by jo on May 03, 2003 at 04:58:43:

My step daughter was recently diognosed with Marfan, she has been 6 feet tall since 11 yrs of age. She is 26yrs now. The doctors recently put her on beta blockers for her heart. She has been having breathing problems and after some more tests discovered a goita in her throat. The doctors want to remove it in 6 weeks time. This operation will effect her thyroid and she has been told that she will be on replacement therapy for the rest of her life. Can someone please help? Is there any alternative?

There are natural methods to controlling thyroidism, Jo. I've had a thyroid nodule (goiter) for the last 20yrs and hav been successful in controlling my thyroidism and shrinking the goiter by using nutritional supplements. The sites below recommend isolated supplements, but I use a total nutrition supplement. Feel free to e-mail.

I would recommend you visit the following sites:

Mary Shamon at http://thyroid.about.com (She also has a top
doc list.)

Gail's site at:

John Johnson's site at:

Hi, Jo.

I would expect that, by this time, you would have become an expert in Marfan's. Is a goitre part of the genetic signature of Marfan's?

If I had this, I would seek out the best CAP (Complementary and Aternative Physician)I could find in her area (see the holistic practitioner archives for how to do that) and get a consultation with lifetime history (see the Health Coaching Protocol) and ALL of her medical records IN HAND.

Let us know her true options. I will bet that surgery is only one of many less damaging and more effective options.

Walt
