prominent blood vessels around nose

Posted by Carrie on October 18, 2000 at 07:25:25:

Dear Walt:

I have a noticed that right at the front of both nostrils, I have developed noticeable blood vessels/veins? I am unsure of the correct terminology. I just have a few red streaks on both sides. What could this be?

Hi, Carrie.

Do you have a long history of alcohol abuse?

If not, does any of your family have the same problem?

Walt

Walt...

I am a conservative Catholic and I do not drink ANY alcohol except an occassional glass of wine at weddings. My mom does have prominent blood vessels on the sides of her nose. Interesting that you asked about this... because after school today, I went home and looked at my mom and sure enough... she does have it. Is this genetic? My only worry is that I was just wondering if any disease process could cause this? Thanks for your prompt response. I will wait for your next response. Thanks much.

they got a lot better when I started eating by my blood type. Then somebody said that corn suger, starch, and any kind of corn will make them bad. she told me to cut them out, and no sodas and don't eat anything with wheat, and no coffee.

Mine almost all went away, then came back a little. Quercitin with some ester vitamin C took the rest of them off Mom's face. I started using this pproduct named Celluvar that has horse chestnut, butchers broom and gotu kolu in it. That is really working, my face and even legs are pretty clear now!

Thanks VERY MUCH for your info. I will try the supplements that you suggested. I find it very interesting that you talk about food intolerances causing it. Makes sense to me. Especially since I KNOW that I am sensitive to wheat products. Thank you very much for your insight!

Hi, Carrie.

This puts you in a catagory where it is likely genetic and we do not yet KNOW if it is a significant sign or not. Remember the vertical line in the earlobe and its connection to coronary risk? Well, people had these folds for thousands of years before someone figured out that they meant something . The likelyhood is that it DOES mean something but we, as yet, do not know what.

In the meantime, if you can get someone to order a true liver "function" battery (see the archives about liver), it might be worthwhile.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Re: prominent blood vessels around nose (it's rosacea)

You probably have a skin condition called rosacea. Any competent dermatologist can zap those blood vessels right away with a laser in a simple office treatment. W. C. Fields had this, hence the often seen confusion with alcohol, which really has nothing to do with it. You
may also notice redness on your chin. Guys tend to have involvement elsewhere on their face as well.
