I have cruized through the Archives, found much useful information.
Right now I need the answers to some technical questions. Here is a rundown of what has happened so far, found an herbal treatment for my thyroid and did one and a half rounds of treatment then was unrightiously tested for only TSH instead of the full round of blood testing. The Melissa in the herbal mixture I was using lowers TSH levels and I ended up on 150mg of PTU.
What ended up happening was that I started to exihibit signs of hypothyroidism, I could not get an immediate answer from the doctors and due to the severity of my symptoms I was forced to downdose my self off of the PTU over several days time.
A five or six days after the personal end of my treatment with PTU I was given a blood test (even after explaining the reasoning for the TSH levels being low they still wanted to give me just TSH test and I insisted on the rest). Below is the results of the bloodtest, what I want to know is where does this put me on the thyroid disease list.
TSH <0,004 LO Limits .0350 - 5.500
T4 10.8 mcg/dL Limits 4.5 - 12.0
T3 285 H ng/dL Limits 60 - 181
So what has the terrible, never do it again, PTU done to my system. I am still suffering hightened weight gain with very little food ingested, as well as a gravelly voice and extremely irregular bowel movements (almost as if my system is no longer processing food or something).
What do I make of all of this? Hell if I know what those ignorant fools have done to my endocrin system this time. Any suggestions on where do I go from here, I have already reordered my herbal tinctures and am getting a book on Tai Chi and will begin almost immediately but other than that I am lost in the vortex of insanity.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Peace
Denise

Hi, Denise.
Let us hope that there is no permanent iatrogenic damage...probably not.
Start by reading the thyroid archives until you understand that the solution to ALL thyroid conditions is SR and wellness.
Let us know what you learn.

Thanks for responding. I have checked into the archives on the hyperthyroid and graves issues. Should I be looking into the hypothyroid things now. I don't pretend to understand the bloodwork and am presently looking about for answers to my bloodwork questions. Can you tell me are they in the hypo zone, I know where the TSH is but the T3 and T4 I am not knowledgeable about.
No I will not be another casualty of insufficent doctors diagnosis'. Putting probably not at the end of that statement gives me some hope of return. I would generally just like to be able to process food again and just get rid of the asthma and other annoying symptoms I did not have before the meds. Am going to confront the endocrinologist that did this to me on the 25, wait till I lay into him for his ignorance, I am sure he will be real happy to never see me again once this is over. Well I suppose I am off to rehash on the archives and check into the hypo stuff. Wish I had a bit more clarity to work with though.
Thanks
Denise

Hi, Peacerules.
The more you know the better able you will be to make your "confrontation with the endocrinologist" a positive experience.
Hyperthyroidism is just a precurser to hyothyroidism. The best approach is the same for both in the long run. In the short run conventional remedies are worth while IF the individual's health is in jeopardy.

Have you been to Mary Shomon's site, about.com. If not, you should. Someone there will explain your results for you. Very active/informative site. Best wishes.
