Hi,
I am ordering your book-- ( pay day is Friday) but in the mean time- would you possibly be kind enough to give me your opinion on my test results?
I have copies of the blood test results and the Uptake Scan.
Free T4: Mine: H 9.8
reference range: 0.8 to 1.8
Thyroid Antibodies ( Thyroglobulin Antibodies)
Mine: Less than 2.0
reference range: 0.0 to 2.0
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies
Mine: Less than 2.0
reference range: 0.0 to 2.0
TSH ( Third Generation)
Mine: L <0.01
reference range: 0.40 to 5.50
Thyroid Stim. Immunoglobulin
Mine: H 144
reference range: 125 or less
Total T3
Mine: H 656
reference range: 60 to 181
The Uptake Scan is as follows:
History: Right Goiter and Hyperthyroidism
Following oral ingestion of 416mCi of Iodine 123 the uptake at 4 hours 82.70 (value is 62.15% and at 24 hours is 93.98 ( normal value is 15 to 35% )
Impression: Hyperthyroidism
Thyroid Scan:
Ap and both oblique views were obtained.
There is significant enlargement of both thyroid lobes due to a focal area of decreased radionuclide activity over the left thyroid lobe.
Impression:
The findings are compatible with significant thyroid goiter with either presence of cyst or cold nodule over the left lobe.
I have written the test results word for word. My Dr. cannot confirm 100% Graves, and he cannot tell me the cause of my HyperT. He does not want to refer me to an Endocronologist-- until he sees if HE can help me first.
Of course, I told him about your web-site, and although he is a very caring and pleasant Dr.-- he does not believe that nutrition ( other than staying away from Iodine) or Stress management will have a real effect on my HyperT.
He has prescribed 10 mg. of Tapozole 3 x a day - along with the Inderal-- until I start to feel better. I am still going to order your book- regardless of what he says-- and I don't understand why he doesn't have more information for me-- with all of these blood test and Scan results.
I am also concerned about the "cyst" or nodule".
He says that EVENTUALLY we will do an Ultrasound.
I'm sorry this is so long-- I am just really frustrated and depressed about all of this-- and I want to be as educated as I can about Thyroid Disease-- instead of blindly trusting everything that my Dr. has to say. I am a wife and mother who goes to school full time, and works part-time-- and this is really affecting my responsibilities.
I am willing to do whatever it takes to get better!!!
Thanks so much for your help !!
Take Care,
Terressarose

Hi, Terressarose.
In MY opinion, your doc has not learned a thing (about the causes of hyperthyroidism) since he graduated from medical school. Just one point (among many): All medical students are taught that chronic fight or flight is the major known cause of hyperthyroidism. Your doc must have slept through that class :o). You need a more holistic doc. See the holistic practitioners archives as to how to find one.
In the meantime, the only thing known that will help you deal with the causes is SR. Over the months your "doc" will begin to see that you need less and less suppressive medication and gradually reduce the dosage.
Until then, the only irreversible step would be a therapeutic dose of RAI. So far, you have only had a diagnostic dose.
Let us know what you learn and how you do.
Walt
