WE ARE LOOKING TO ADOPT OUR 2ND CHILD.
WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT HER MOTHER OF 17 YEARS OF AGE, HAS GRAVES DESEASE.
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF THE CHILD HAVING GRAVES AND WHAT SHOULD WE ASK?
WE ARE ABLE TO ACCEPT THIS CHILD OR NOT. WHAT SHOULD WE ASK & DO???

I'm not a Dr. but thought this might help. My husband had Graves disease, was treated for 1 year and has been fine for several years. His 40 year old child has never had a problem.

Hi, Martin.

This is a question for a conventional website. WE ARE NOT HELPLESS IN THE FACE OF OUR GENES!

This 'site is about how to make choices so our gene expression is not so important. 80% of our phenotype is based upon choices and the other 20% on our geneotype.

Don't worry. Lots of people (like me)get Grave's Disease without any history in their family, and have kids that don't get it. Grave's disease is really about stress, and I'm sure a teenage mother has a lot of that. Welcome your baby and relax.
