Dear Doctor,
My daughter is 14 years old and has a oval shaped cyst on her thyroid about 1.5" in length and 1" in width on the right side of her throat. She first noticed the lump when she was 11 years old. About the same time she started her menstration. 2 years ago she had a ultrsound. The ultrsound showed a mass on her thyroid. Her TSH levels came back normal. She did not want to have a biopsy done.
Just recently she said she is having difficulty swallowing and would like to have her lump removed. She says her ears feel plugged all the time too. She has low energy level, normal appetite, gets tired easily, dry skin and cold feet and hands. Would a natural progesterone cream help her? I made an appointment to see a pediatric throat surgeon to have her lump removed next month.
thank you

Hi,
No matter what Dr. Stoll advises about the lump, I would urge you to see a naturopath or other doc for a complete thyroid panel for accurate assessment of thyroid function. Just a TSH is not a good indicator of thyroid function; rather communication from the pituitary to the thyroid.
Good luck.

This is an herbal approach. The recipe for the formula is listed midway down the page
3 parts mullein
1 part lobelia

Hi, Gen.
What I have to say will not help make this simpler for you.
This is most likely a thyroglossal duct cyst and has nothing to do with the thyroid function. It is a "birth defect".
My bet is that none of her symptoms will be permanently alleviated by the surgery which is the only way to get rid of a thyroglossal duct cyst. Her difficulty swallowing is the only symptom that may be relieved since that depends upon how far the "roots" extend.
If she were mine, I would begin to interest her in doing wellness since that is the answer to the rest of her symptoms.
Let us know what happens and what you learn. If we can help more let us know. This note was just to open the door to a more productive direction for your thinking.
