Hi Dr. Stoll, My very good friend has just had the news that her thyroid has flatlined. The dr. is amazed that she is walking around, but she says she feels quite good. A few months ago, when first diagnosed with thyroid problems, she was given Levoxil (I don't know if I'm spelling it right), but she couldn't tolerate it, it did bad things to her. Now the dr. says she will have to take it again, only triple the dose, or she could be gone in six months. Any hope or help here? Please, anyone, any information will be greated appreciated. Thanks!!!

Georgia, your friend might tolerate Armour thyroid hormone better than Levoxyl. It's a natural thyroid hormone derived from pigs. She can use this until she can bring her thyroid back into remission with nutritional supplements. Many people are able to do so, myself included. Your friend is hypothyroid and that's much easier for doctors to treat than hyperthyroidism because it doesn't usually cause the heart to beat too fast and doesn't usually involve the eyes so much.

Hi, Georgia.
In my opinion you have brought up another problem with the simplistic allopathic paradigm.
Many strictly allopathic practioners have forgotten that we are supposed to be treating people NOT lab tests!
So long as she is feeling good I certainly would not suggest ANY thryoid replacement!
In the meantime, if she was concerned, I would suggest she learn about the 3 legged stool of wellness. Knowledge is power.
Hope this helps.
