Dr. Stoll,
Hello I was diagnosed with Grave 11/02. My tsh was < 0.01
I am now on 5 mg of tapazole and my tsh is 0.1 and t3/t4 normal. I was on 20 mg when my free t3 was 687 (350) normal. I am very stable right now actuall, but would like to be "cured"
The original diagnosis was thyroiditis when my tsh rebounded from <0.01 to 0.34 from 11/02 to 1/03.
I was wondering what could cause this and if you have any suggestions such as SR and how to get your books.
Thanks

Matt,
Suggest you go to the National Graves Disese Foundation website. They are a wealth of information. There is no cure for Graves, however, it is treatable.

I have several friends that have gotten their GD in remission! However, you need to watch your stress. Read up on colon heath because I feel that's where it starts.
Here are some goodwebsites:

Thanks, SS.
As there is no cure for alcoholism (Once an alcoholic, they will always have the genetic propensity for it's recurrance--if they drink that first drink.), so anyone who has had Graves, will always have the tendency and will have to modify their lifestyle to prevent recurrence.
ONLY IN THAT SENSE IS IT NOT A CURABLE CONDITION!
Serious wellness CURES Graves and so long as the individual keeps it up their thyroid function (and frequently the eye bulging) will be normal. Any reasonable person would consider that a "cure".

Matt,
Just think what would happen to the "National Grave's Disease Foundation" if all Grave's patients got rid of their condition?

Thanks for the replys.
By cured, I do mean normal thyroid function without tapazole. I can not help feel that my body is not right all the time on medication. The feedback system is shutoff and using the medication as a crutch.
I am experimenting with dietary supplements, omega3's, zinc, magnesium, selenium. Do theses help? Or should I just do SR?

According John, at ithyroid.com...GD is caused from a copper diffiency and zinc will further deplete your copper. He says to build up your copper first before adding zinc. Some people recommend the herbs Lemon Balm and Mother's Wart for GD. SR should help too! Do your homework...there's alot of information out there.

Keep your iodine intake below 150mcg daily! Iodine is found in most multi vitamins, so if you take a multi you'll want to find one without iodine. Don't let anyone talk you into RAI, remember GD is an auto immune disease...it's not your thyroid. RAI basically puts your thyroid out of comission...then you'll become hypothyroid and have to be on hypothyroid meds the rest of your life. RAI doesn't help thyroid eye disease, either, here again because it's the auto immune disease that's attacking your eyes. I'm on 5mg of Tapazol...I've already told my Dr that I'm not doing RAI. I don't think she's very happy. When I heard that no one could live in the same house with you for 3 days and they said don't eat with paper products because they don't want that "toxi waiste" in the land fills...that was enough to scare me! Japan rarely uses RAI for GD, they treat it with meds.

Matt,
So long as the thyroid has not ben totally removed, surgically, or totally destroyed with RAI, it is curable by removing the causes.
The only supplement that I know of that directly makes a difference is selenium (archives).
Wellness just lets the system do the best that the tissue that is left has to offer.
