Graves disease and TSH

I have gone to two doctors asking them to test my free T3 and free T4 in order to test for Graves. Both of them insist that the TSH is a more accurate predictor. They refuse to test the free T3 and free T4.

Is it true that the TSH is more accurate?

Hi Kevin,

Funny you should ask this question right now. It took
me an entire YEAR to get Kaiser to agree to give me the
full on testing for thyroid issues. Insurance companies
don't want to pay for it. The truth...and this is what I
finally told my doctor the other day, and FINALLY got her
to order my tests. You cannot acurately diagnose
thyroid issues without FULLY testing everything. They
know this, but they don't want to pay for it. My mother
has hashimoto's disease/hypothyroid. The stress she
had to go through to get the proper tests done was
ridiculous.

So, here is what I finally had to say. "Fine, I will go pay
for the tests myself privately, and if I find I have a thyroid
issue, you will be hearing from my attorney." She wrote
up the lab slip for the test then and there. Poof....done.

Yes, Kevin, although the combination is more accurate yet.

Go to the Grave's archives and start reversing the causes of this instead of spending so much time pinning down the exact name of whatever dysfunction your thyroid may have. ALL thyroid problems have the same root causes and remedies. The different terms describing them are all related to the individual's genetic susceptibilities and not to the remedies.

Let us know what you learn.

My TSH level was normal at 1.0. Is it possible for my TSH level to be normal, but still have a Thyroid disorder? Do I need to test my free T3 and free T4 to be certain?

Thanks, DD.

I have found this approach to be effective for years.

Hi Walt,

Unfortunately, it is what works. I had two years of
stress dealing with insurance companies. (car and
health insurance). No one wants to "insure" my well
being. I paid all of these years for no service in the end.
I know it isn't a new story, but I finally got a lawyer a few
weeks ago. I am finally, for the first time in two years,
able to wake up without this feeling of being
overwhelmed by the lies and manipulation. Someone
else has the power now. The insurance companies
back off when a lawyer gets involved. I have often
wondered these past two years, since the car accident,
how many deaths have occured from accumilated
stresses in having to deal with insurance companies. I
will never again try to take on an insurance situation
without bringing a lawyer into play. I could have saved
myself two years of feeling helpless and angry. Too
bad life has to be this way.
