Using the 3 legged stool approach and the information on this website I have said goodbye to most of the symptoms of graves disease. 8 months ago I could hardly see out of one eye and had little control over when the other eye was open or closed. Now my vision is as good as perfect. My heart rate and strength of beat was very high, couldn't climb stairs, trembling all over. Now I just get palpitations if I eat sugar or exercise too hard. My TSH level was in the 40s, now it's in the normal range. I've returned to my old stressy job , but part time and with lots of deep rest on my days off. I have no depression and am controlling anxiety much better. (My insides used to be gripped with ice I was so worried about my work performance). I still take my herbs, have learned to cry instead of always putting a jolly face on things, and a 1000 other little changes. I still take 5mg carbimozole a day, but that doesn't explain my restoration to near health.
So there I am on Monday having my 2-monthly appointment at the hospital with an endocrinologist I haven't seen before. I'm feeling serene and well, and I tell him how hugely better things are. He says that this is temporary - that it will get worse again, but not to worry because i can take steroids and have surgery. I'm aghast. And to me it seems as stupid as saying to a person with a cold 'you'll get better, but don't forget you'll die one day'. It is such a negative thing to do to me or anyone - and at least I have this website that showed me my path to healing. Don't these consultants realise the importance of their words and their potential to help heal with words alone? Why are things so primitive? What about the other sick people who just have the specialists and the powelessness they can endender in their patients? But the truth is it's knocked me for six. Am I being delusional? He says my blood stream will always be flooded with antibodies - there's no point even in testing for them again. Was it really my massively changed lifestyle and attitude that got me here or was it random? And if the latter will I just deteriorate again? Feeling sorry for self (sniff)

Go easy, Emma. I must sure have had a lot of antibodies to my joint tissues as I had severe RA for more than a year. Now the RA is almost gone and I dont worry about the antibodies even if they are in there. Focus on the path of healing and the little things which make life memorable.
What I've learned is pretty much every auto immune disease can be reversed incl cancer. The antibodies are just a symptom of what went wrong in the body. Fix the causes and these antibodies will go away. Keep up the good work and find an encouraging doctor soon.

Hi Emma,
Congratulations on doing so well!!! I'm impressed at the wonderful changes you have made and your persistence at continuing your health care program! I do not think such improvement could be random!! You are doing it!
Such lack of compassion and caring in the health care industry! I surely wouldn't see that guy again. Keep going forward with your 3LS -- don't stop. Keep looking for any other things that can help. You might consider working with a holistic practitioner in the future rather than an endocrinologist who is so caught up in the medical model. By this time, I have just about given up on the medical profession -- it is slower but I make more progress just working on my own, doing the healthy things.
Again, congratulations at all your improvements due to your great changes and diligence.
Best wishes,
Jan

Emma, take anything they say with a grain of salt. The only thing they know about autoimmune disease is to shut down your immune system. With that notion, the disease can only return. Just keep proving them wrong! Maybe they'll see the light. My very best to you, you've accomplished a great deal.

Thanks, Emma. Congratulations!
And just think, 8 months is just about the earliest results. Let us know how you are doing in about 2 years from when you started.
Your doc is in the full blown Tolstoy Effect! Now you have to get worse to just support your doc's ego.
Namaste`

Sounds like you are doing great, especially for it only being 8 months! I have two friends that haven't had any GD symptoms in 20 years! I'm hoping to be off of my meds by summer! Keep us posted of your progress!

Thanks to all of you for your warm words and wisdom. I'm back on track! I'm sure that without the things I learned and applied via this site I would still be in a state of fear and hopelessness, and I would not have discovered that I could have anything to do with getting myself better. I have found this place a wonderfully inspiring resource throughout. People like you give others tremendous strength. I will let you know how I do and I hope I can pass on the help I got here to others.
Wishing you all wellness,
Emma
