An ultrasound has confirmed that my 12 year old daughter has
a fluid filled cyst on her thyroid. She has undergone a rapid growth spurt in the past year (5'6" and she'll not be 12 till next month) and is going through puberty though she has not yet menstruated. I have been referred to an endo and am afraid that some aggressive treatment or medication will be prescribed which I am adamantly opposed to. My daughter has always been an extremely healthy young girl, rarely catches a cold or flu even when others around her in school are falling down with something. She is energetic and has a very good appetite. I must admit though that she is rather high-strung and a bit too much of a worrier for my liking. Please, is there something we can do to get this cyst to resolve on its own. I know there is an imbalance causing this (hormonal?) and I want to get to the root of it. I am seeing a naturopath next week. Any help would be
very much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Mary.
A cyst is not very dangerous. However it does indicate that there is too much stimulation coming from the hypothalamus and the most likely cause IS stress-effect storage in the hypothalamus. That plus her prepubertal age puts an intolerable (for her genetic structure) stress on her system. She is very lucky that a cyst is ALL she has. Reference: "The Stress of LIfe" by Dr Selye & "MAH, MAS" by Pelletier.
See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.
This age is the hardest to get to learn anything (least of all SR) which is exactly what she needs. You might try Deborah Rozman's classic "Meditating With Children" but the ages of 11-14......... SOME children that age are not so stubborn and, since this is by far the best thing for her to do to pervent the next (more serious) message her bodymind will be sending her, it still is worth the try.
Let us know what happens.

Thank you so much for your advice. We have just seen a naturopathic doctor who detected stress coming from the hypothalmus as well as mercury toxicity (vaccinations). We are now taking remedies to get the mercury out and to get the kidneys and liver doing a better job. I have some chi gong
relaxation tapes which she listens to daily. Will report on progress.
