To Helping You re Thyroid - now have test results

Posted by Cold Fish on August 30, 2001 at 15:14:11:

The last time we discussed thyroid function you recommended taking armour thyroid 2/day. I just called the doctor and got my blood test results:
T4-12.9 (4.5-12 is normal range for thyroxine)
T3 - 36
TSH - 0.03
Free thyroxine index - 4.6
It sounds like my levels are both low and high.
Does this indicate that the Levoxyl pills (generic form of synthroid) are inappropriate for me? With this information do you still think the armour thyroid would be the correct medicine? You help is greatly appreciated, as I'd like to be more knowledgeable if I end up going to an endocrinologist, or do I need to? Thanks for your help.

It depends. What's the reference range of T3? Your TSH is perfect. 0.03 is EXACTLY where we want your TSH levels. It seems like what you are doing is working.

They didn't tell me the reference range of T3, but they did say that my TSH was below average.

Your doctor is probably not aware of the new guidelines for thyroid interperetation. go to www.mercola.com and type armour thyroid into the search engine. There is an article on thyroid test interperetation that may help you understand this better.

Dr. Stoll,
I opened your post on this thread and it only said NMI inside for no message inside. Were you going to post a note on the topic?

Hi, Cold.

I thought Helping You had responded as I would have and that the string was worthy of being archived.
