Hair loss! Response to Kelly from Aug.2001

Well I suddenly started having rapid hair loss too. Kelly, I have been through all the same test, exceptt Lupus which is next week. I hadn't lost hope until reading this bulletin. Now I am in tears! Has anyone related this to hair color? I was a cosmetologist, so of course I color my hair often. I never had a problem before and this last time all the hair was new growth. Plus, the hair was coming out by the root! Now it just breaks off and I am starting to wonder. Shea

Shea,

I recently had my hair rinsed in order to hide the gray hairs sprouting in my brown hair:-( A week later I returned to the hair stylist to cut my hair a bit shorter. At that time advised him I might consider coloring my hair as I liked not having to see the gray.

He advised me as Long as the rinse hid the gray, NOT to start coloring my hair as it leads to other problems such as brittle hair, thinning hair, etc...His response floored me, but believe his honesty. I'd been complaining about having oily hair and having to wash it daily. Learned not to wash it every day, not to use my fingertips to scrub the scalp, but use the palm of my hand, and to wash the hair last in as cold water as I could stand. I told him he was a crazy lunatic, however, I'd try for a week or so. No longer need to wash my hair daily, and can now go 3 days before washing my hair. Oddly enough I've gotten used to the cold water and no longer steam up the mirror. Hope this helps.

Hi Shea,
I had hair loss, brittle, and breaking of the hairs.
I have autoimmune dificiency disease. I was also tested
for Lupas and all that stuff.....The tests came up negative.
At SHAPEs recommendation, I started taking Biotin, Silica complex Omega 3-6-9. My hair is coming back in, it stopped breaking off and is much thicker and in better condition.
I have never been able to grow my nails long, and now I have long thick finger nails.
So, you might try the above supplements. They DO work.
Hope this helps......

HI, Barb

That's interesting that your nails have grown and are thick. I've never been able to grow my finger nails as they're paper thin and tend to snag like a pair of stockings. Only time they were ever long was when I was in the hospital after my hip surgery. Of course, my doc was giving me all kinds of vitamins as well as iron.

Wonder what will make my nails grow?

Hi,
You should try the supplements I suggested. I have always
had paper thin nails. I heard of another post where a lady took glucosimin with chondroiten for arthritis and her nails started growing and were thicker....
Its worth a try....

I colour my hair with a natural colourant. It is still a permanent but it doesnt damage the hair. It is a natural product, but I cant remember the name of it. The health food store sells it and it is made in Italy. Ah, remembered, It is called Herbatint. There is only 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in it. But it still lightens your hair by at least three shades, which is enough for me. I have naturally dry, curly hair and this product never dries it out, even a little bit.

So if you dont want to stop colouring, try this product. I swear by it. There are also some good henna products out there too, that wont strip or damage your hair.

I dont trust any other permanent hair colouring product except this one. I tend to leave it in my hair longer than directions call for as get brighter and more intense hair colour. Hair has never dried out or fallen out from this product.
