Dry as the Sahara Desert.....

Posted by Mrs Frank Abagnale Jnr on January 11, 2003 at 11:57:09:

My scalp that is! Yikes, Help. What do I do now.

Its making my hair dry as well. I have long, thick curly hair down to my waist, and after I wash it, I get a handful of hair from combing through my hair when I condition it. Is that normal??? Is it because my hair is long that this is happening? It never happened when it was short, well certainly not as much.

Anything I can apply to my scalp that will penetrate the scalp? I just need some relief. I am tackling the causes, although I need to step up my efforts somewhat.

Hi, Mrs.

Since any hair loss starts with the root (and a certain amount is lost every day that way, normally) you would notice it a lot more with long hair since a long hair piles up faster than a short hair would.

Have you had any physician examine your scalp with a magnifier to see if your loss is excessive? A knowlegable practitioner would also pull an easily extracted hair and look at IT under the microscope for signs of premature loss.

Any book at the library about this would show you the different apearance of individual hair roots for different reasons for hair loss.

If you ARE having premature loss, I would try the EFAs on the home page for a year and see what you notice.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt

Ok, so hopefully it just SEEMS like so much more because there IS more, as my hair is quite long and thick. Actually, my hair hasnt been this long, gosh since, I can hardly remember. I think I was about 14. My dad loved my long hair, and prohibited having it cut till I was 15. I was so thrilled the day I was allowed to have it cut short and modern; it was my way of rebelling. :) And here I am so many years later, with long hair, and loving it now! :)

I will try the EFAs. Probably in the form of flax seed oil. As I recall, it helped my scalp and my hair was a lot healthier and softer. I just hate having to take that oil or any oil at all, as it brings back memories of the days when mum forced castor oil down our throats as kids.
Ugh!!! lol
