Over the last several months, every time I shampoo my hair I see alot of hair loss. I do use hair color? Any answers as to why I might be losing so much hair. As this has been going on for quite a while now-my hair is really getting a lot thinner. I have had some hair loss and hair got thinner than usual, but never this bad. I remember after the birth of my first child my hair got quite a bit thinner than it had been before giving birth. But, again never before has my hair been this thin. I am a middle-aged woman. Help!

Hair loss can be caused by many factors from bad PH balance in your shampoo to a thyroid condition.
I had a problem with hair continually following out though not thinning for years since I was a teen. I tried nearly every commercial shampoo available and sometimes it would be ok but then start up again, the most significant being after I was hospitalized for 3 months. Eventually I settled a few things that seemed to have helped me for a significant amount of time I do not use shampoos/conditioners that contain Cetyl Alcohol besides possibley contributing to hair loss they can cause acne and irritation on the scalp (same for facial skincare products).
I drink plenty of water which keeps my entire body hydrated. I use a bar shampoo from a company called Lush wich is located in the UK, Canada and San Franciso lush.co.uk or lush.com it has very little in it and lathers like real shampoo they even have one that is supposed to be for falling out hair.
I've also noticed an extreme improvement in my hair texture, shine and strenght since starting the EFA regimin. I also do not use any hair products like hair spray, gel, mousse etc and use natural henna (also from lush) for coloring instead of store brands.
I'm not saying that any of this is your problem or will help you just what has worked for me after years of having my hair fall out, be brittle and other issues.

I am a woman who experienced severe hair loss for a couple years and was forced to wear an expensive hair piece to cover it - I am having remarkable regrowth due to a product called Thymuskin - it is expensive, but it's the only thing that's worked for me - I hope in another 6 months to be able to walk outside without my hair piece for the first time in 6 years...
good luck.

Hi--stress can cause hair to go into resting phase...Also, cause shedding. Too much vitamin A can also cause hair loss, as do many medications. Some vitamin supps cause hair to shed/thin, but then it grows back (i noticed this using ginko biloba). Are you thinning all over or just specific places?
Hair color generally does cause some minor hair loss initially, usually of the hairs that are in the resting phase, or are already dead and just have not fallen out yet. It is normal to lose btwn 50-100 hairs per day from your head. 1 note about problems with hair color, especially if you "do it yourself"---DO NOT RUB HAIR COLOR INTO SCALP---I know a lot of blondes who do in order to get closest to dark roots---this can damage roots.
Are you noticing "baby" hairs growing? (hairs that are only an inch or two long? If yes, this is a good sign, maybe you were just going through a "shedding" after a stressful event...stressful events are not just pregnancy, but also can be car accidents, death in family, divorce, new diet regimen, different nutritional supplements, change in exercise, and also, chemical treatments to hair...Do a look up on the i-net re: alopecia, there are many different forms, and there is something called "female pattern balding"...Also a lot of these sites explain ways to deal with hair thinning.~~~~~~~~~~~~~Celena

Thanks everyone; What i noticed that really helps myself and others with this happens is increasing the B Vit. Take a good B complex and i take 4-6 a day for 2 months and then back up.Also the essential fatty acids as someone mentioned; There is also a product at the health food store that also works well for many, it is called Ultra Hair from Nature's Plus, it is known to stimulate hair growth. Horsetail is a good source of silica, also necessary for strong shiny hair;
If it continues at all get your thyroid checked, for hypothroidism can cause hair loos;
Of course, be an ex hairdresser, cloring can play a role also, best to use as natural coloring as you can;

You should see a doctor because there are many reasons why this could be happening. It could be related to your thyroid function. It could be other hormones that are causing an imbalance in your endocrine system. You could have a deficiency of iodine. Also, certain pathological conditions are known to have hair loss as a side-effect. Don't take a chance on handling this yourself.

I've been thinking of trying Thyuskin as well. How long have you been using it?

I too have been experiencing hair loss for the past couple of months.
I have just completed a 60 day parasite program from Healing Within using several different herbs from South America do you think this could be related?
The herbs are Padapco, Gozarte, PhyllMartin, PacPic and Magdaclarin if they mean anything to you.
Thanks, Jill

since mid November - I was bald from the last vestiges of my widows peak at the front of my hairline all the way back to the crown - a huge V-shaped pattern - I have been taking monthly photos just to be certain - I am amazed at how much has grown back in, especially when I get out of the shower - there's no denying the real volume of your hair when it's wet - I suspect it will take another 6 months to a year to fully grow in - but I feel that if I continue to make this kind of progress, I will have my natural hair for the rest of my life...I only use the shampoo (yellow), the treatment and the gel - sometimes the conditioner. It has given me such a sense of personal hope...I also buy mine thru Thymusking - free shipping and the prices are slightly better - good luck.

It's certainly a possibility. If something in the product is stimulating or hindering your thyroid or other hormones, this could most certainly happen. Can you get a complete blood work-up to see what's going on?

Lab tests are reliable if you get the right test. The correct thyroid tests are TRH-stimulation, Free T3 and Free T4 along with TSH. TRH is best
