Dear Dr. Stoll,
My little sister is 34 years old. Healthy. For the past 3 weeks she has had a headache she describes as dull on the top of her head, but consistent every day for 3 weeks. Nausia comes and goes. Her dr. gave her a decongestant and a prescription medicine for the headache. She has no other symptoms other than the headache and nausia.
This morning at work she felt kind of shaky, like she had to eat something right away or she would faint. Her headache was more "throbbing" than it had been. Her husband took her to the E.R. and they did a urine dip (negative, althought I don't know what for) and a CAT scan of her head, also negative.
She has always been very healthy. The only thing I can think of is that she has taken the birth control pill for 17 or 18 years and that is the only medication she has ever taken. Also, earlier this year she had several fibroid tumors and cysts that were giving her pain which were watched and did decrease in size and have given her no further problems.
She describes feely "fuzzy" in her head, not necessarily dizzy, but "fuzzy".
The E.R. referred her to a neurologist. Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Jackie

Jackie, you might read about "bracing". It's in the Glossary in the header on the main page. The chronic tension can certainly make your head feel fuzzy.

it would be good to get off the birth control pills for general health.
She should make sure she's getting enough water, dehydration can hurt your head. If she's moved to a different altitude recently, this can also change your water requirements.
Food intolerances can develop anytime during life. She might want to have blood allergy testing ( chiropractor or osteopath can steer her to someone whho does this).Common foods that can hurt heads include cheese and shrimp, but there are many individual intolerances.

I have had these same problems for 3 years, nausea, headaches, foggy-headed, etc. I have come to realize, through the help of this board, that I have LGS, and possibly yeast overgrowth and food allergies. I plan on being tested for all of these to confirm my diagnosis. I had hundreds of tests run by all sorts of doctors in the past 3 years, and eveything came back normal. I would recommend that your sister look into these things. I started having the symptoms when I was 27 and under a great deal of stress at the time. Is your sister under a lot of stress? If you have questions and want to write me, feel free: hollymdoyle@optonline.net

Hi, Jackie.
Listen to Sally for the most likely explanation that will also be likely missed by any allopathic physician.
See any anatomy atlas for how tension in the trapezius muscles will pinch the greater occipital nerves which supply the top of the head.
Let us know what you learn.

Why is the answer to everything on this board 'bracing'? If doctors gave this diagnosis for every ailment they'd be thrown out of the medical industry.

Only because they'd be curing everybody and the AMA would disown them. Ha. Which if you read Walt's story..... Anyway, I'm not going debate. Have your sister get a really deep massage of the shoulders and neck working up the side of the face. Get a brainwave tape and relax. I'll bet you didn't read the "modern interpretation of stress" or the "bracing" article. It will make a lot more sense when you do. If you would rather medicate, anti-depressants or muscles relaxors might work. She'll be a zombie for a while. Anyway even if the doctor doesn't call it bracing, I think that's what they will be treating.

I am the sister whom this is about. The day after the CAT scan, my upper teeth began to ache and my headache that i have had for three weeks was gone. I felt so much better. I figure this whole thing has to be a sinus infection. my nose is also begun to run clear. Dr. prescribed Cipro-have taken three so far. Today my headache is back. my teeth hurt less than yesterday, nose is still running a bit. last night my fuzziness was gone and what a great thing it was. today the fuzziness is back-especially while looking at this screen. my neck is also sore-like my head is so heavy to hold up. i hope, hope, hope, it's sinus.

Remember, Julie,
Most persistant sinus is also related to chronic bracing of the head and neck muscles.
