This is a well known syndrome which can have many causes. If your doc doesn't know how to evaluate them get a referal to a headache specialist.

Listen to sarahw (Thanks, Sarah.) These are most commonly related closely to migraine headaches and are caused by the same mechanisms. Try the "hot arms" technique to get rid of them when they happen.

SR will do a lot of good, done properly, but only after at least 6-12 months (some get results in only a few months but all get results after the 6-12 months).
