Dr. Stoll: How to Heal Ruptured Hemorrhoid

Posted by Martha [6.3282] on February 14, 2007 at 05:23:56:

Dr. Stoll

I have a ruptured internal hemorrhoid with open sore/s which produce severe burning. The doctor gave me hydrocortisone 25mg to heal the sores. I used this medicine before and it causes many side effects-one is burning. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Martha

Hi, Martha.

Actually, topical corticoids retard healing! They only reduce inflammation so your symptoms are reduced.

The same things that prevent hemorrhoids speed healing of any "ruptured hemorrhoids". In the meantime, be reassured that the rupturing of any hemorrhiod is the first step toward the body's self healing of that hemorrhoid.

A complication of that healing process, though, is the development of a fissure. Healing a fissure is best accomplished by eliminating the causes of hemorrhoids.

IF a fissure developes, and does not heal, a fistula can occur and that is only reversed via excision, surgically.

Let us know how you do. Even a fissure should be healed within a month IF those causes are addressed.

Walt

Dr. Stoll

Thank you for your reply.

I am doing the M/MO and it started to work. I also started taking 3000mgs of Fish oil twice a day.

My most distressing problem is that the skin slightly inside my anus up to the internal ruptured hemorrhoid is irritated, raw and bleeds--very painful. Can I use the anhydrous lanolin you suggested in the archives for this problem? or can you suggest some ointment that can help me with the burning and horrible dryness in the area.

Thank you

Martha

Yes, Martha.

The anhydrous lanolin might help. A&D ointment would probably help more, though.

Dr. Stoll

Again, thank you. I started using A&D and it is helping. I also started SR and will be buying the supplements you recommend in your book.

Now, the ruptured internal hemorrhoid swells at each bowel movement (no straining, soft movement). The pain is unbearable. I put ice, hot compresses, but the swelling lasts for hours. Can you suggest what I can do to prevent this?

Thank you.

Martha

Thanks, Martha.

With what you are saying here, my suggestion would be "tincture of patience". You can expect results in about a month.

Dr. Stoll

Thank you. I appreciate all your help and wisdom.

I wish I can buy some of this tincture - I sure need it. The pain and discomfort are so severe that it consumes my waking hours. I cannot walk more than a 10 minutes and sitting has become almost impossible.

I was just trying to see how I could not think about the problem when I read your answer. It seems I cannot take the pain one more day - I just want to be well now (a magic solution), but I will have to try to have patience.

I let you know about my progress.

Thank you.

Martha

Dear Martha, there are so many nerve endings in that region, it truly magnifies the pain. I guess you gave up on the chiropractor and I hope you didn't think one treatment was going to be all it took. However, I don't know if you have a donut pillow and wonder if that would help you while sitting and thought I would suggest it. I know Walt doesn't think sitz baths are effective but I always found them soothing.

Hello Sally

As you suggested in another email, I asked Dr. Stoll whether he could suggest something for the pain and irritation.

No, I have not given up the idea of the Chiropractor. In fact, I have a series of appointments to begin in about a week. The Chiropractor said my problem would take about 3 months.

I take sitz baths and they are helpful, thank you.

Thank you.

Thanks, Martha.

IF your diagnosis is correct you should not be having so many, or such severe, symptoms. Perhaps it is time to be re-examined with the proctoscope.

Dear Martha, you are handling this so well, with the unbearable pain I know it's hard to DO anything. I hope this all goes away soon for you.

Dr. Stoll

I will follow your advice, but want to wait a week or two to get stronger, I am too sore now. I was examined four times within the past 3 months and these exams were painful experiences -and just set me back several weeks. It seems I cannot get a doctor that is gentle or puts me to sleep to examine me. I know they are trying to be thorough, but it is a terrible for me.

Improvement:
I have not experienced too much swelling at each bowel movement and the rawness in the anal area has improved with the A&D Ointment during the past few days.

However, at each bowel movement my hemorrhoids slightly protrude and I push them back- this stretching of the skin is painful-sort of a tearing, buring sensation-which lasts for 3-4 hours.

Question: Should I use the ointment on protuding hemorrhoids to push them back or can I use Vaseline?

Thank you.

Martha

Martha,

Use the A&D to push them back.
