I have IC like symptoms and because of the exclusion of many other conditions which produce these symptoms it seems likely that this is what I have. The pain is primarily where my urethra is (not the opening the actual tube) and I just read that herpes can cause urethral irritation. I have genital herpes and was wondering if you agreed this could be the cause?

Sorry, Confused.
Probably the herpes. A simple pelvic exam can tell the difference (if the physician is skilled).

Dr. Stoll:
Can you say a little more about this to me? I have been to numerous doctors about this problem and none of them have ever even suggested that the herpes could be causing my symptoms though they all knew that I had it.
If it is this is there anything I can do? I realize that there is no cure for this and I have not had an outbreak for over a year and the pain in my urethra/bladder is constant. Does this make sense?
Thanks for any suggestions. I feel like maybe I have been on the wrong track with this for a very long time, thinking I had IC, doing an anticandida diet, antifungals, SR etc.

Hi, Leslie.
I can no more prove it to you than the "docs on the spot".
In my opinion, serious wellness it the first thing you need to do and, while you are doing it, start at least a gram of lysine twice a day. Try to avoid arginine in your diet (See the reference librarian for a book that shows arginine levels in foods.)
Let is know how you are doing in about 6 months.
