I just turned 50 and went thru a short period of anxiety which seemed to have spurred a continual onset of herpes 2 outbreaks for the past 2 months. As soon as one site breaks out and the blisters take on a life of their own, another site will break out. All these occur around my tailbone and buttocks. I have had occasional outbreaks for many years, but this time they are much worse and there is no relief between one outbreak to the other - in fact, right now I have 4 active sites. This is part of a menopausal situation, anxiety or diet? It's starting to wear me down......Thanks for any words of wisdom.

Hi Mel,
Are you taking any anti-viral meds to control this?
If not, why not?
Valtrex, acyclovir, valicyclovir...

I do not suggest following Ron's advice. First try a more natural approach to control and then prevent this from happening. The virus will starve without arginine. This amino acid starves in the presence of lysine. Go to a health food or vitamin store and purchase L-lysine as well as some Ester-C. While you are actively having this virus, take 3 grams of L-lysine twice a day on an empty stomach. Experiment with the Ester-C and take to bowel tolerance. Within a few short days your symptoms will improve and you can decrease the dosage. In addition to dealing with your stress, which is poison for your body, pay careful attention to your diet. Learn which foods contain arginine and avoid them completely. You can supplement with the L-lysine at a lower dosage when your virus is under control. Good luck!

Hi Mel,
The choice is yours if you decide to treat with natural
means. (I suspect that you may have already tried that approach before now.)
If you decide to try eliminating arginine to see if it helps, let me remind you that IF you have urinary problems,
that could aggravate the condition...
Here is a link which shows that arginine may be more
helpful to some.

That article (and I use this term loosely) doesn't talk about herpes, which is the main complaint of the original poster. And arginine is known to trigger herpes outbreaks. What are you doing on this holistic board, Ron, promoting allopathic drugs, herpes triggering supplements to herpes sufferers, etc.? Do you have nothing else to do?

Whatever works is best.
I would rather hear/see what Mel has to say...
Even Dr Stoll is not as critical as you are for some reason.

Hi June,
Thanks for that article....
This part sort of shoots it down in Mel's case...
"Please remember, though, that recurrent herpes outbreaks can be a complex problem relating to stress, weakened immunity, a diet too high in acid-forming foods, and nutritional deficiencies and that lysine therapy is not a substitute for dealing with these factors."

Hi, Mel.
The only ting I have seen that reliably reverses this is serious wellness. In the meantine keeping your arginine intake low and lysine supplementation at least at 1 gram a day, will be helpful.
Let us know how you do.

And the best thing to do to achieve that is to be quiet.

Actually, he is; only he's put it in a more toned down way.

I get these also, usually brought on my stress or hormone changes. I can
always tell they're coming because I get this tingling feeling in my backside a
day or so before they break out. Sometimes, if I take L-Lysine in time, I will
avoid break out.
