Could someone please describe what Lysine is, what it is for, and how much to take of it? Are there any negative side affects. Thanks, D Shay

Hi, DShay.
Lysine is an amino acid that is found in many foods. It is the antimetabolite for anginine which is an amino acid essential for the herpesvirus metabolism. It has been found that 500-1000 milligrams of lysine supplement a day, while avoiding arginine containing foods will greatly reduce (or eliminate) herpesvirus breakouts.
Look up lysine and arginine containing foods at the reference library section of your local library.
Let us know how you do.

Dshy, lee me start by saying I have no idea technically what it does or why it does it, but when I have ulcers in my mouth I take one tablet a day and they go away usually in about 3 days. I was vacationing in the Pocono Mts. and had stopped at WAWA convenience store for ice and drinks and whatever and the check out clerk said I noticed you are talking funny becuase you have ulcers inyour mouth. She went on to say that she was PRE-Med and that in her textbook it told her that L-LYSINE would help. I had been to my doctor a few times in the past with no results or help and here this check out girl said that in the textbook was the answer so I skeptically tried it figuring I had nothing ot lose. Was I wrong by the next day they were less bothersome and gone in 48 hours. thats the extent og my knowledge other than I have recommended them to others with similar results.
