Dear Walt,

This time I would like your opinion on Atkins diet which i beleive is a low-carb and high protein diet. I did some research on it and is still confused. Inspite of living an active life since 7 weeks, my weight loss is not that apealing when compared to my cousin who lost about 15 lbs in 5 weeks just being on Atkins diet. My question is if its ok to go on this diet for about 4 weeks and get a boost in weight loss of course my exercise regime would still be continued and then come back to my normal diet which i strictly follow. I am in desperate need of loosing, i beleive as per my height and frame Iam about 40 lbs overweight. Any suggestion will help. Thanks

Hi, Ali.

Weight loss will even help you conceive.

Take a look at what Robert McFerran does on this BB and ask him directly for information. My guess is that would help you lose more weight than Atkins.

Dr ,,
Need some advice for my mother.. She has been seeing doctor(HMO) for years in regards to acid reflux ..Has all the classic symptom of Gerd (self researching)... She has been placed on varies medications,to no avail.. This has really gotten worse latlely and is effecting her work. Never was she told from the docotr that this is not something that goes away. She has been very upset, that the meds arent working and she has changed her eating habits ,,she feels its her, that she keeps doing something wrong. Anyway, we are going to try the Ginger Juice (and I pray it works for her), But my question is,,Her medical folder is atleast 2in thick, the only test they have done was a CAT scan. In doing our research,we hear of scarring of the esophagitis,,and the cancer word.. What tests should they be doing , just to rule out the scarring? Seems to me after some many years of coming in for the same problem,a few more tests should be done.
Your advice helps. Thanks Mary

Sorry, I cannot answer your concerns, but would like to share one from the past.

about 20 years ago, I had a neighbor up the street, older lady, nice lady. But she got into acid reflux and had troubles for a LONG time with it. Of course, Walt's board was not here, in fact the internet was not in existance, in fact, there were NO PCs back then. Dinosaurs wandered the earth! :-)

Anyway I felt so bad to see her in such misery. The acid appartently damaged her esophagus, affecting her speech, and thus her life. She later had several surgeries and nothing helped and she just died.

So I think it is good to do the Ginger Root Juice (what could it hurt?) and to be vigilant for other causes and for damages to her esophagus as a result of what has been happening.

Hi, Mary.

Listen to RHJ.

The ginger root juice is but a safer, less expensive and more effective way to get rid of GERD symptoms. The cure has to be by getting rid of the LGS.

See the link to the archives I have prepared below. Go to the glossary for any unfamiliar terms. Then go to the archives for the listing about GERD.

In the end, it is only your mother who can learn all this stuff and do what she has to do to resolve it. In the meantime, all you can do is open doors. If she chooses not to walk through them, you can at least be less upset with her complaints and what they may lead to. You will just have to love her as she is knowing that your love has at least given her a choice.

Once she has assimilated the above massive information, if she still has questions, I would be happy to do my best to give her more information.

Walt
