I don't have a juicer so I put some fresh ginger in the food processor. Ground it up pretty good (skin and all) and then used cheese cloth to squeeze out the juice. I got 8oz of juice from 1# of ginger root.
Is this an acceptable method of extracting the juice? I read that you should not use a blender but don't know why that is.
The juice is yellowish green.
Thanks,
Lynn

I would think that it would be fine since you were able to strain the juice with cheesecloth. Another option that some have used in the past is to have a local juice store juice some for you. The high-power juicers would be able to extract more juice.

That is how I always juice it. I use my little Oscar food processor and it works great. Yes, the juice will be yellowish green.

Hi, Lynn.
It may well be. The reason for the shredding process (as opposed to the slicing process)is more mystical than actual (according to the ancient Chinese Medicine from which it comes). SO, using your machine may cause this to be less than 100% effective.
Let us know how you do.
