Read this just over a year ago on this board. Amazing. All I drink is ginger root, night and day. Maybe no longer taking any caffeine also helps, but everyone with reflux should try this. I was a very bad case, even had fundoplication surgery. Still take omeprazole though just in case. Paul Duffy

Kept taking Losec (Prilosec), [which I think is every bit as effective as Nexium] on the advice of my doctor. The concern for anyone with serious reflux is scarring of the foodpipe - Barrett's Oesophagus - and the long term safety data on the proton pump inhibitors now stretches to over 15 years.
Though it hurts to come to terms with it, in my case, a marked reduction in alcohol can also make a difference. To some degree reflux is a life style ailment, though I believe it is chiefly physical, ie., a weak flap that lets acid backup up the oesophagus. PPI's reduce the production of acid by up to 90%.
Still, I have had the surgery (full effect lasted only 18 months), take the capsules, but it has been "tons" of ginger root & no caffeine that seems to have done the trick. Paul Duffy
