Ginger root juice failure!

Posted by Howard on January 27, 1999 at 21:55:45:

Dr. Stoll,
I have been reading your compelling book and you did ask for anyone this Ginger root juice didn't work on, to let you know. I guess I'm the "lucky" guy. It will be 3 weeks this Sunday. So far absolutely no effect. I was wondering if it might be bothering my throat since my voice box is always sore and tight. Even before ginger. Scope shows red, acid they tell me. Very painful along with the rest of the stomach to neck hassle. 60mg of prevacid. Anything you can suggest, such as help for the throat also would be appreciated. I am in need of some helpful advise. I was not wanting to be a statistic.
Thanks
Howard

Hi, Howard.

Thanks for your feedback. So far, all those who did not have total elimination of their "GERD" symptoms, with the GRJ,turned out to have another cause of their symptoms.

Sounds like a "cop out" doesn't it: "If your GERD symptoms didn't go away with the GRJ, it couldn't have been GERD in the beginning." (SIGH!)

However, so far, all those willing to look further for the real causes, and do something about those causes, have finally eliminated the symptoms. You know, allopathic medicine is not always right about the mechanism of symptoms----as a matter of fact we are frequently wrong---
as you must already know.

My first guess is that you have many other symptoms that would be directly attributable to "total body bracing". The only symptoms that I can recall your ever having shared with me could easily be due to bracing instead of GERD and the GRJ would do nothing for bracing.

Let me know if this is (or is not) true.

As we work this out, I hope you will share what you learn with the BB participants.

Walt

Dr. Stoll,
Thanks for the response. Basically, my symptoms are the upper stomach pain, bloating, this is accompanied by the constant sore throat. (4 months ongoing after I had a virus) Usually it seems hard to swallow, and is quite sore. My ENT scoped my throat and said it was very red, irritated and said that it looked like reflux. I also have a tuff time with the asthmatic effects it can cause.
Along the line of bracing I can say that I often feel "tight" or tense as if I will expload!?! My upper chest area (left side) and my shoulder, back, arm get very tight and achy when I flex, excercise, or tense up. I have had much heart tests, I recently refused a scope, (had one 2 years ago, showed very little) I wanted the scope but then got disgusted with looking for some answer on that blank page. I suppose I could blame much of this on my "A" typical personality, my business or employees but thats probably a cop out. I need to find that stress relaxation mode, and add aerobics. Can you offer me your opinion on my above outline? I read in your book about chelation! I received roughly 20 treatments, low dose, 2 years ago for what was believed to be high levels of mercury. Later tests proved levels dropped to normal.
Thank you
Howard

Hi, Howard.

No wonder your GRJ did not resolve your symptoms. Your problem is structural and without resolving the bracing, it is going to stay. The muscles around the esophagus are continually contracting (bracing) and so they do not relax in synchrony as you swallow. This makes the internal walls of the esophagus rub tightly together & produce the irritation you experience AND what is seen on the scope.

Getting a deep, total-body, therapeutic massage 3 times a week for 3 weeks would give you significant relief for a few weeks. That would be enough to convince you that this is bracing. Doc Dave might be able to tell you if Chiropractic would help this a lot.

Rolfing might last a year or so and Alexander Technique (or Feldenkrais) might last longer if you kept them up.

In the end, however, only the regular practice of effective skilled relaxation will have a permanent effect.

Let us know how you do.

Another angle: Think back to your so called "viral infection" that you have been told started this. I will bet that a virus had nothing to do with those symptoms--they were the beginning of your present condition. Think carefully about what was going on your life for the few months prior to the onset. The chances are pretty good that something was going on that you "couldn't swallow". This, especially if it was something that you couldn't bring yourself to speak out about. I would be interested in feedback about this possibility.

Dr. Stoll, I can relate to your last paragraph. I've had throat tightness and problems for about a year. And I'm pretty sure that part of it has been a manifestation of me not being able to "speak my truth." The body speaks in very interesting metaphors! The more I've come to terms with certain issues, the fewer problems I'm having with my throat.

Thanks, Lana.

Howard needs to hear what you wrote. This MAY be a symbolic cause of his localization of the bracing. The subconscious thinks in very literal terms.
