How exactly is ginger root juice made? will it help possible GERD that causes no particular pain per se, but more of a lumpy throat feeling? Is 31 too young to have GERD?

That lumpy feeling in throat is what brought me to this site many years ago. The ginger juice worked well for me. IMHO, it's certainly worth a trial and much less expensive than thousands of dollars worth of testing that may or may not show anything (and it doesn't have the side effects that PPIs and acid reducers have).

You will need a sturdy juicer to juice ginger root; otherwise, you'll burn out the motor. I have a Champion juicer that I use. Even with that, I usually have to stop and rinse the parts once during juicing to get rid of the fibers or it gets too hard on the motor.

If you do not have a juicer and do not want to invest in one yet, see if a friend has a juicer or see if a local juice shop (like Juice Stop) will help you out if you bring in the ginger root (go buy organic). I stored my juice in a glass container in the refrigerator. It should last you several weeks. It seems I would juice 1/2 to 1 pound of root at a time. I am a fan of juicing and think a juicer is a good investment :)

31 is not too young for GERD. I think even babies get it.

And don't forget the rest of the steps listed in Dr. Stoll's article. GRJ is just for symptom relief. SR is key for long-term.

I had that very same problem about 3 years ago. I never had any GI problems, however after a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic I was placed on steroids for about 2 months. Shortly after getting off those I had an awful lump in my throat. It almost felt like you feel when you are about to cry but was with me all day and it actually hurt to swallow at times. I went to my dr who told me it was globus hystericus, which basically meant I was nuts but still gave me a few dufferent scripts of ppis to try (none worked) so then I came here and stayed up all night reading the posts. Next day I went out to buy a ginger root from my regular grocery store. I didn't have a juicer but a friend did and he juiced it for me. A regular root gave me almost enough for a month. I did it just as Dr. Stoll recommended and guess what. no more lump... I stopped the juice after about 2 months and it never returned. I won't lie to you and say that it is really pleasant to drink. It has a little zing. Try it.... It definately can't hurt and I think Ginger has some other benefits as well. I have been coming here for years and Dr Stoll and the rest of these fine people have never streered me wrong ! Good Luck.
