spastic esophagus

Posted by Barb on January 31, 1999 at 13:51:35:

After years of acid reflux, I had surgery called open fundoplication in May, l998 and it cured the reflux.
Six weeks ago I developed a pressure in my chest that never goes away and has been diagnosed as a spastic esophagus. The only thing suggested is to do another endoscope . I have had three of these and would like to find some other answer to the problem before I go through that again. Any answer will be greatly welcomed

Hi, Barb.

Thanks for your note since it helps me get the point across that neither the surgery, OR THE GRJ, will permanently resolve this problem without dealing with the causes,

EVEN IF you could find another "treatment" that would give you relief for a few years (unlikely) eventually your problems will be even worse since you MUST get rid of the causes (chronic bracing & LGS for starters).

Walt

Thanks for your reply regarding spastic esophagus.
Your terms(chronic bracing and LGS) are not something I am familiar with. Can you please explain.

Dear Barb.

I was not aware that you were so new to this BB.

Hardly a day goes by in which both of these conditions are not discussed.

I would appreciate your going to the archives and saving me retyping it out once again.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Walt
