GERD

I'm 37yrs old and was diagnosed with GERD about 4 years ago and I am currently taking Nexium. I have also been diagnosed with hypertension and have been taking Prinzide 20/12.5 form age 5 I was told that I suffered with IRD (Irritable Bowel Disease) since I would have bouts of unexplainable right lower quadrant pain especially during times of stress and was given Donnatal and othe meds over the years for this. The GERD problem I believe arose from stress and has not abated. What brought about my symptoms (which include burning in the esophagus at times, nausea, diffuse chest pain, pain undser the arms, and in the neck and shoulders, and most troublesome of all is feeling of constriction of the throat that gives the feeling of suffocation and inability to swallow without possibly choking) I believe was the loss of my Mother and the responsibilities of helping my Dad and 14 year old brother while trying to manage my 2 businesses and a partneship in a third combined with an inhalation of fumes from bleach and some other cleaning chemical while I was in a confined space brought the GERD on in spades. I recall that when first hit with the problem I didn't move from my recliner for almost 2 months. If I drink anything with caffeine or some hot or very cold will flare most of my symptoms up. It has gotten to the point that I rarely will go anywhere other than to my office since I rarely feel good and I am scared to death of having some of the symptoms flare in public. I don't know if I'm unique but I've always put a lot of thought into everything and have always been told that I am older than my years ... I've been asked by my primary care physician if I internalize my problems and stress and I guess maybe I do to some extent as I do like to have control and I always like to be prepared. At this point I'm ramblimg and turning this into a narrative but was hoping that maybe this would provide some information and a bit of a background for you to determine if there is anything I can do to alleviate my sufferings.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi, Tim.

Since your hypertension and your LGS (the cause of both your GERD and your IRD) are both caused by chronic stored stress-effect in the hypothalamus, one would think that physicians would, by now, know enough to have their patients with these conditions doing SR.

Start with the article on the homepage about stress. Next go to the archives ang glossary about LGS, hypertension, GERD, bracing, SR and the like. In the meantime start the GRJ and prove to yourself that we know what we are talking about.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
