Chronic hives, cleansing diet & losing weight makes them worse--Help!

Posted by itchy_in_reno on July 15, 2002 at 02:55:08:

Hi, I am a sufferer of chronic hives, for about 25 years. I control the intensity of the outbreaks with Allegra, Singulair, Zyrtec and Gastocrom, which I take every day. Nothing has really helped, when an outbreak happens, no amount of pharmacutical drugs prevent them, just take some of the itching out.

My hope has always been to find the source, and to cure this thing. I have been reading the archives, and the information has pretty much convinced my that my trouble began with a 4 month course of antibiotics in high school, which set me up for LGS. After that, with courses of birth control pills, stress in college, bad diet, it seems like Candida set in,and the hives became a daily occurance.

In the hope of clearing the hives, about 10 years ago, I went on the anti-candida diet, as well as took Nystatin and caprylic acid for 9 months. I also had regular colonics at this time, in the hope that I would 'clear out' the toxins from the candida die off. During the nine months, I lost 30 lbs, and my energy improved, but the hives just got worse and worse, and I had to abandon the program.

After reading some of the posts, it is clear that I did not have adequate medical advice during this time, and I probably just made 'super candida' of the survivors, as I did not follow the diet 100% and stayed on Nystatin for probably too long, and possibly the wrong dosage. I am not sure how to proceed now, because every time I try to clear out, and follow a better diet, the hives just get out of control.

Here are my questions:

1.( IF LGS is behind this, why does following a 'bad' diet put my hives into remission? Why do my hives get better when I am gain weight, or keep at a stable high weight, and get worse when I start to lost weight?

Whenver I eat what ever I want, and follow no particular diet, (this would include yeast, molds, sugars etc) and have minimal physical activity, my hives go into remission. Outbreaks are minimal or are completely non-existant for weeks, even months at a time. Whenever I start any kind of 'healthy' diets-the anti candida diet, upping my water intake, eating more fresh fruit and vegtables, adding fiber, etc, the outbreaks get terrible.

In addition, whenever I work out, or even have a higher activity day, the outbreaks also get worse. If I combine a diet WITH exercise, like I am doing now, to lose weight, the hives get terrbile, even with all the above drugs in my system. This usually makes me just go back to the old bad habits, I can't stand the itching.

2.) I also would like to know if the liver can be involved with chronic hives. One night, after drinking too much at a work party, (shots of tequila) I woke up with a huge red hive over my liver area, which was also extremely tender. Over the next few hours, the giant hive spread to cover most of my body with lots of smaller hives. This really kind of scared me?

I am wondering if the hives are part of some detoxing thing, or a healing crisis, but would like some input on this, and how the above fits with candida and LGS & amd a cure. Thanks!

You may be "on to something" with your past experience in the management of the hives. I know that Dr. Joel Robbins talks a lot about how he was taught in medical school that one of the first signs of a toxic liver is itchy skin and hives. He mentions that when the diet is improved, a liver that is already toxic or full will try to remove toxic substances through the skin. This may explain why the hives are worse when your diet is good. He mentions that a "bad" diet puts the symptoms into remission because the body has stopped cleansing. Dr. Richard Schulze mentions this too, and says that "if you begin to cleanse your bloodstream and your liver is already plugged up, it's like a garbage dump that is full - when this happens, the liver can't accept any more poisons. The toxins then start coming out your skin or backing up into other organs. You actually get sicker". Dr. Schulze talks about an order of cleansing which includes the liver, colon and bloodstream. There is a lot of information online about Dr. Schulze cleansing, last time I looked there was a web-site that held a lot of his information: www.curezone.com. Hope this helps!

Hi, itchy.

You are in the right ball park with your research but 10 years ago you started at second base and missed the hit and the first base.

You need to start with the glossary and then the home page and the archives until you begin to see the whole field and where you are on it

Start with bracing, then SR, then LGS, then hives, then, if you still do not see the pattern, stress (esp. home page).

Let us know what you learn. The learning has to come first.

Walt
