CHRONIC HIVES (URTICARIA)

I have had hives since October of 2001, and have also been on prolonged steroid use (pretty much 8 months minus a week or two) and cannot seem to get off the steroids without the hives coming back full force. I am on pretty much every anithistamine imaginable. I take 7 pills a day. Due to the steroids, I also have to take calcium supplements and a prescription antacid (prevacid). My allergist has run out of ideas on what could be causing my reaction. I've been on an exclusion diet for urticaia and a no-wheat diet. Neither worked. I still get hives daily, and am on 15 mg of prednisone. I'd like to get off the steroids and am wondering if anyone has any ideas or a way to get off the steroids (I've also gained 40 lbs and 2 pants sizes because of all this) that might work. I've been through dozens upon dozens of RAST tests for foods, allergens, you name it. The only thing that came of it all is I found out I have a level 2 allergy to oranges and haven't touched them since. Can anyone help??

I should also mention I have excluded perfumes, changed all my personal items to "sensitive skin", my detergent to dye and perfume free, I have an anti-allergen pillow and pillow top cover for my bed. The medication I'm on includes: Claritin 5 mg and Prednisone 10 mg in the AM; Zyrtec 10 mg (used to also take that in the AM), Singulair 10 mg, Prevacid 15 mg, Prednisone 5 mg, and Doepin 25 mg in the PM. This regimen just isn't working - anyone find something stronger anti-histamine wise (or anything else for that matter) that helps???

Hi Michelle - If you want to email me at
(alternative.health@verizon.net) I'll send you a Candida/Leaky Gut Questionnaire which will help me to give you some suggestions that you can use to help yourself. I've had great success in these area if you are willing to change your diet and learn how to perform muscle testing so you will know what you are allergic to. * Rick *

Hi, Michele.

What have you learned from the hives archives?

This totally unnecessary condition is only a warning.

Walt

Only a warning? You have me worried...a warning for what?

I've looked at some of the archives...and truthfully I'm a bit confused about the whole thing. I just want to get off the steroids.

Michele.

Just like the red lights on the dashboard of your car are "warnings".

Michele, below is a link to the H's in the glossary. Scroll about half way down to find the "hives" entry. You'll find a good explanation there, as well as links to the other terms, and "Walt's Chronic Hives Summary & Q&A Archive". When going through the archives, I find it helps to read the messages from oldest to most recent. Hope this helps.

Michelle,

It is a warning that you need to start taking better care of your health. If not, you may have other and more serious health problems down the road.

If you do start learning how to take better care of yourself, you can avoid those problems, plus I would guess also clear up the hives and get you off steroids(Im taking a guess here because I don't know much about hives). But when you take good care of yourself, all kinds of health problems disappear.

Keep reading the archives until you have a better understanding of how to do what Walt calls "Practicing Serious Wellness" or "The Three-Legged Stool." It consists of doing Skilled Relaxation, eating a Whole Foods Diet, and doing Aerobics Exercise. Look up those topics in the archives.

Keep learning and reading about health. It is very important. The archives are confusing but if you work with them, you will find that there are treasures there that will help your life.

Best wishes, Happygal
