CHRONIC URTICARIA

Hi,

I've had chronic urticaria now for 9 months. My doctor prescribed antihystamines, which haven't helped. I've tried chinese medicine, herbal tinctures, elimination diet and blood tests for allergies. I did have extremely high anitbodies for dust mites, wheat, dairy and lower antibodies for pork, beef, tomatoes. I then used anti-dust mite powder in my home, especially my bedroom, put anti-allergen filters on my vacuum cleaner and anti-allergen covers on my bed, duvet cover and pillows. Still no relief from the urticaria. I've been seeing a dermatologist who has tried increasing my dosage of anti-hystamines, steroids (initially some relief but then it came back with a vengeance) and now Tagamet for stomach ulcers which is also an H2 blocker. All in all I'm now on 3 different types of anti-hystamines a day, and also the Tagamet twice a day.. Again, no improvement. As well as the hives, I get swollen lips, eyes and feet. My dermatologist dismissed the blood tests as useless but cannot give me any reason for my hives.

My dermatologist also suggested it could be stress and emotional related so I have started counselling to explore this aspect of the disease.

So I am now at the stage where my hives are constant and I no longer have periods where they disappear for a few days/weeks.....

The only relief I have had in 9 months is when I took some supplements which help with leaky gut syndrome - FOC, L Glutamyne, live yoghurt - but stopped taking supplements when I was put on steroids..

I'm worried about the long term effects of taking anti-hystamines (non-stop for 9 months now) and the Tagamet and would rather try a "natural" remedy...

A friend recently recommended Morinda citrifolia or noni juice which is supposed to have beneficial effects especially with leaky gut syndrome. Do you know of this and would you recommend it?

Also, I note from the archives you have recommend self hypnosis for chronic hives - is this something you can just learn from a book or is it best to get professional help to start off with...

Any help and advice you can offer would be great...

Thanks,

Dawn

dawn, i was in the same boat last year- 9 months of those horrible critters severe everyday. i went to every doctor under the sun , only made things worse( especially steroids, they killed my immune system). walt cured me. do his stuff perfectly and learn self hypnosis, either from a book or a therapist( but get tested, you have to hit the alpha state or its useless) then do it as often as possible. in my opinion this will stop any one's hives if done correctly. i feel that hives are triggered by 2 things-1) pollutants in your system-eg candida, parasites allergens, mercury from fillings etc and 2) a hyper immune/nervous system. you need to fix both to be cured, but i feel dealing with number 2 now will at least get rid of the hives. also i found eliminating all sugars/refined carbs( as walt will tell you) and some animal proteins gave me quciker results ( dont get too radical with a quick diet change though that could hurt your system)

the fact that the supplements for leaky gut helped should be a clue. listen to tw. my hives on a scale of 1 to 10 were easily an 11. get started on the skilled relaxation (meditation, self-hypnosis, autogenics, etc.) i use the silva method but self-hynosis may help relieve the symptoms more. as tw says, it's important to be tested with biofeedback to make sure you're reaching the proper brainwave state. get started now and you'll be amazed in just a few weeks.

Hi, Dawn.

Self-hypnosis is best taught in the beginning by a helper. This is one thing very hard to learn from a book. It has to be done regularly, at least twice a day for 20 minutes to be sure to help.

Of course, chronic hives are related to chronic stress-effect storage in the hypothalamus.

That is why I suggested you read everything in the link about hives.

If the solutions are not apparent there, write again.

Thanks, tw, for the testimonial.

The idea is to help others see that they CAN take charge of their health.

Hi

I have been diagnosed with chronic urticaria, have had blood tests, skin biopsy, take antihistimines every day of my life and cannot get rid of the hives. Some days are way worse than others like today where just about my entire body is red, itchy, swollen and damn uncomfortable.

Someboy please help me with how to cope with the swollen red itching skin of mine. I am not too good with this computer thing but I am trying. I would really appreciate some feed back. Dermitologists suck and I am becoming desperate.

Hi, Gail.

The causes of, and solutions to, chronic hives have been discussed on this BB for years. As you know, urticaria are just big hives---no more difficult to deal with than tiny ones.

Spend a few hours on the link to the archives below and you will know what to do.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again. As you get well, I hope you will take the time to share with the BB participants how you did it so others will see that this is a totally unnecessary condition.

Dear Dr Stoll,

I am also now having one form of urticaria - dermograpghim. I have been seeing doctors for half a year but the problem remain. I am supposed to have intake of cuttlefish balls before this. Now, I have been stopping these kind of food for half a year. The problem remain. So why is that? If cuttlefish balls are the reason for the symptoms, so why stopping that food not stops the diease? So am I wrong in thinking cuttlefish balls is the reason for my dieases?
Thanks.

Hi, Charles.

Although "cuttlefish balls" (What the devil is that [grin]?)
MIGHT be the trigger for your chronic hives, it CANNOT be the entire cause or anyone eating them would have the same thing. That means ther are many things you can do other than avoiding cuttlefish balls.

Go to the glossary about SR, dysautonomia, allergy and stress. Then go where they take you. ALL of these are contributing to your suscpetibility.

Spend a few hours on the archives link I have prepared for you below and learn WHY stuff like this happens & how to approach curing them.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Chronic urticaria is just a fancy name for the next step up from hives. Docs use it to maintain the mystery of medical nomenclature. Dermatographia is a VERY common precursor for both.

I have had UC for about a year. Taking everything from clariton to atarax to steriod shots. A steriod shot every now and then helps for about amonth or so. There is a new steroid called kennalog(not sure of the spelling.) I have also found with exercising like playing rcaquetball the hives deminished. When I stoped exercising the hives came back. Get your doctor to give you a shot to calm things down and try getting your heart rate up by excersing. this cleanses the system and speeds up your immune system. Good luck!!!

watch out...i get them FROM excercise...
try excercising lightly and then stepping up the intensity
every couple days...that's what i'm working on right now...

i've had them for over 7 years...
stuff that i have taken are
hydroxyzine(equavalent to attarax)
claritin...TNA
allegra...TNA
zyrtec...that one worked good for a while...but now has seemed
to stop working...it is a somewhat weaker form of attarax
but is also non drowsy, i feel no side affects from it...
but like i said it has just about stopped working...i guess
you build a tolerance to this crap...wish i could build
a tolerance to the hives...
?!?!?!

Hi, Nick and pooop.

By far the most important single thing to get rid of the WHY of hives is SR. Even self-hypnosis will give one nearly immediate results and permanent ones if practiced on the same schedule recommended for SR. Diet can help for a while, Exercise can help for a while. Vitamin C (in large doses) can help for a while. Anithistamines can help for a while.

HOWEVER, in the long run, one must deal with their LGS and that takes SR.

See the link I have prepared for you both below.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Chronic hives is a TOTALLY unnecessary problem.

Walt
