HIVES AND PREDNISONE

I have had chronic hives for 14 months. My doctor put me on prednisone right away. Since then I have tried to come off and have had no sucess. I have done a great deal of research and saught the opinions of many holistic doctors. I have leaned and belive that I suffer from canadida and with that came many allergies. I have been going to an accupuncorist for N.A.E.T.(allergy elimination) which has worked and am taking lateral flora, enzymes and many other herbal medications to combat the canadida and help me break down my foods. I am getting better but am scared for my life regarding being on prednisone for 14 months. PLEASE HELP TO ADVISE ME TO GET OFF OF THEM. I assume my adrenal glands are not producing cortisone fast enough. I am on a chicken and vegtable diet and drink only water. I am at the end of my rope and take make matters worse due to the prednisone I have gained 50 lbs. I am ordering your book, staring SR and have read thoroughly through your web-site. PLEASE some one advise me on how to come off this awful drug prednisone. Thank you in advance for your help
p.s. This is the first and only website that I have seen that makes sense!!!!!!!!!

Kim,

I as well understand the weight gain. I've used it on and off for over 20 years. I gained over 100lbs on it. Isn't it wonderful when your doctor gives it to you and then chews you out for gaining weight? I'm working on a solution as well. Keep looking, reading, asking and praying. Your answer will come.

Vicky

For candida and for overweight, I suggest you read Dr R Atkins' THE NEW DIET REVOLUTION; 2002.The message is simple, drop grains and root veges, and eat lots of protein, oil, and leafy green veges.

For ALL inflamation, especially skin problems try cod liver oil, The EPA and DHA it contains are the active ingredients. Currently I take 7 tablespoonfuls, and it has reversed, butterfly rask and psoriasis.

"Dr Barry Sears; The new diet revoltion; 2002.

Hope this helps

Hi Kim.

Sounds like you are finally on the right track. Too bad your doc did not know enough to start you in this direction #50 ago. Now you have the prednisone problem as well as what you had in the first place!

You might consider combining self-hypnosis with your SR for more immediate relief.

I would suggest, for fastest relief of the actual causes you do the 3 legged stool of wellness and consider some trials of elimination/provocation of the most common dietary allergens since they are the easiest to change.

Probiotics might help during all of this.

You will know when you can begin dropping the dosages of the prednisone. After this long time, I do not think it should be stopped all at once. It would help to know what dose you are on. Your prescribing doc should be involved in this. As you complain less and less about the hives he will reduce the dosage more and more.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt

thank you for responding. I found information on probiotics and that sounds great. I assume I can find that in a health food store. As far as the three legged stool, I could not find any info explaining what that is. Please help. Do you know of anything can help combat the breakouts while coming of prednisone. Maybe something to help my adrenal gland produce natrual cortisone???
Once again thanks

Dr. Walt, sorry I did not answer you question about how much. At this time I am on 5mg. 2.5mg in morning and 2.5mg at night I decreased from 10mg in about 2 weeks. The problem is I et down to a low dosage and then I will have a major flar up of hives ( which means hives the size of baseballs, hard and very very sore) to where I am in so much pain that I have to increase my dosage and then its like starting all over again. Do you know of anything that helps stop a flare up or something that will help the hives once they become inflamed.

Again thanks for your help

Thanks, Kim.

Put this question to Happygal. In the meantime go to the glossary, the home page and the archives for wellness.

Thanks, Kim.

Not significant in the short run but marginally significant in the long run. This should not be hard to get off once you have been practicing wellness for 6 months.

If you click the "Symptoms and Diseases Quick REference Guide" in the heading of this page. 3 Legged Wellness Stool is the very first link.
