Chronic Hives Update

I've had a breakthrough with the chronic hives that I'd like to share with you. This week I decided to try to get off all medication (Allegra) after cutting it down from Zyrtec over the last few weeks. During a really bad hives outbreak, I took a b-complex + C vitamin along with herbal tea (the only thought being maybe some extra vitamins wouldn't hurt). To my surprise, 45 minutes after I took the vitamins, the attack stopped dead. These attacks usually last hours. So, during the next attack (mid-day), I tried the same thing again. And it worked again. Needless to say, I haven't taken any medication ALL WEEK. I've been taking 5-6 doses of B-complex vitamins each day and I'm almost hives-free. Do you suppose that a B-vitamin deficiency can cause hives? I'd like to think others can benefit from this information.

Hi Pat,

Thought I'd add my experience here. I used to get hives every so often, though not as bad as most people here - a few on my face and neck. As I learned more about myself, I realized that my outbreaks were mostly triggered by stress. I have always had pretty high stress jobs and am a bit high strung by nature.

I asked at the healthfood store what would be good for stress and without hesitation, they directed me to the B vitamins. Well, that was the single most important thing I've done, I think. What a difference! B is the only vitamin that I can really feel. I still get hives every so often, but not to the degree that I did before.

Have you been doing SR at all? That also will help you. I know a few others here on this board have overcome their chronic hives with SR and the whole foods diet.

Glad you're feeling better.

Thanks, Pat.

Congratulations on your success.

Since hives always originate in the hypothalamus, ANYTHING that improves nerve tissue function (the Bs) OR reduces the effects of any environmental burden (the C), will help this system function better.

My only concern is that, if that is all you do, it will eventually stop working. If you continue to increase the vitamin C (especially by using the esterified variety) you may be able to keep ahead of it for years. BUT, eventually it will return unless you get with the SR so the hypothalamus is not functioning so close to its limits.

Walt
