Your site is very enlightening...interesting to read that ordinary vinegar would solve my case of toe fungus on my little toe, and not cost nearly what my last prescription did. If only that was the extent of my trouble.
Last November, I saw the first hives on my wrist by my watchband. I had just been overseas in Milan and Warsaw the 2 weeks prior, and in the middle of buying my first home. I thought nothing of this, but they appeared more frequently. In January or February it got really bad, and I woke with hives on the palms of my hands (itching terribly). I finally saw a dermatologist, and he’s told me to stay away from certain foods, and prescribed allegra, then a month later allegra and periactin, then a month later some other drug that made me ravenously hungry (so much for the 10 lbs I’d lost on weight watchers), then the next month doxepin at night and periactin.
None of this seemed to help, and through this time I was having days when I’d have hives on my legs, feet, arms, neck. I still had days when I’d wake up with some hives on my chest/shoulders even after doxepin and periactin at night. I’d also get sleepy on my train ride to work.
The doctor keeps telling me its not nerves or stress, it’s a change in body chemistry. I keep asking why? I’ve never had any allergies before. Supposedly my blood tests came back, and I don’t have Lupus, or allergies. For some reason I’m having “hypersensitivity” reactions to things like Advil, cheese, yellow #5, red #40, strawberries, raspberries. I think I’ve also been experiencing lactose intolerance. I have never had trouble before with ice-cream?!
Last week I stopped taking all these pills, and I’m awake, alert, and feel like myself again. I still have the same reactions, hives in the morning after I eat, my hands/palms in the middle of the night. But I’m doing my best to eat lots of fresh vegetables/fruit and avoid any triggers. Still…I want to know the cause? Summer’s almost gone and I’m craving fried clams, but am afraid to try them.

In order to reverse your chronic hive problem, you must 1) detox your Colon, Liver and Gallbladder, which is your major health problem and 2) you will then need to heal your Leaky Gut problem, by taking lemon flavored Cod Liver Oil and UltrainflamX. Both of these supplements will help to heal your leaky gut problem but you must also change your diet. Due to your leaky gut problem, you have become allergic to certain foods and beverages that you always have consumed. 3) For a three month period, you need to eliminate grains like wheat, white flour, corn and box cereals. You need to stop consuming tomatoes and tomato sauces, switch from red meat to salmon or chicken. 4) Drink nothing but spring water during this healing program and be sure to drink the required 8 to 10 glasses everyday.

Thanks for the advice. I've already given up making waffles, french toast, corn muffins on Saturday morning (which I've always done). I gave up on cereal ( I blamed the milk) and even toast ( I thought it was the marmalade, jam, or butter) on weekday mornings in favor of fruit. I've been drinking seltzer water, and have only had about 5 beers in 9 months.
The doctor had told me to avoid pears, for a similar compound to the red#40. Any other fruit/melons I should avoid? Interesting that the night the hives first woke me up, I had made my own tomato sauce, and made lasagna. (Cheese, pasta, tomato, washed down with a beer.)

Most of the people that I muscle test for "Seltzer Water" test negative, which means that it's not good for your body chemistry, therefore, I'd suggest that you switch to spring water to see if it helps eliminate your hives. However, eliminating items is only half of your hive problem, you must heal your Leaky Gut problem. Drinking even one teaspoon of beer is detrimintal to your health. Beer is nothing but yeast and sugar and I'd say that you also have a Candida problem as well because it thrives on sugar. If your Candida and Leaky Gut problems are left untreated, it won't be but a few more years and you will be experiencing more serious health problems. A candida/Leaky Gut problem can mimic up to 80 different health problems (symptoms), as your health continues to deteriorate. Take action now, while you can simply do a few preventative things and reverse these early warning signs. * S.H.A.P.E. *

I was starting to think that as well based on the reading I've been doing. Even the Celiac disease symptoms sound almost familiar. But cutting out the flour is really tough for someone who likes to cook, like I do. So much for apple pie at the end of the month.
What's the best approach for the Candida?
I've got a knee that has been sore a lot in the last few months that actually has felt better in the last few days, since I've been avoiding wheat and been off my pills.

The more offending foods and beverages that you eliminate from your diet, the better your health will become! The best and lest expensive way to eradicate Candida is to eat all the garlic and onions that you can hold. This will create an unfavorable environment for the Candida/Parasites (my guess would be that you also have a parasite problem) to try and exist in! Be prepaired, you might experience a die-off reaction as the bugs are eliminated. I would also suggest that you first perform some colon cleansing by taking a product like Corrective-A or Fiberblend.

Hi, JW.
I guess I do not have to say that I think you need a better doc.
One of the most common causes of chronic hives IS chronic stress (one of the first things proven by even conventional medicine). Where has THIS doc been? See the FAQ article about stress on the home page.
That, in turn produces bracing which in turn causes LGS which in it's turn can cause candida and hypersensitivities.
Approaching this by elimination of triggers might just help (if you are lucky enough to choose the right eliminations) but that will not resolve the causes triggering the hives. As you eliminate some of the triggers, you will begin eating other stuff more often and then your chances of developing hypersensitivities to THOSE things will greatly increase.
The only rational thing to do is tho deal with the stress-effect. See the SR and the chronic hives archives. Continuing to search for the most common triggers, in the meantime is worth while. I would eliminate things TOTALLY, one at a time, so as to figure out what is worth eliminating and what is still OK.
In the meantime you can begin your search for a better doc so, if you cannot resolve this on your own you will have some local help. See the holistic practioner archives for that search.
This ought to get you started. Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Thanks for the advice.
Yeah, I have figured out on my own that the Doc I've been seeing hasn't got a clue what I've got.
I'm really surprised, now having read the "bracing" archive, that you guessed that so quickly...and so accurately. I've always got my guard up.
I attempted some SR this morning before getting out of bed. Going to go down to the waterfront at lunch and give it another try. Also started taking garlic recently, and started an enzyme supplement and bacteria supplement yesterday.
The other item you might be able to shed some light on, is night sweats. Quite often I wake up in the middle of the night and my pillow is wet (neck sweaty). Unrelated symptom? I've had that for a long time.

Thanks, JW.
Dysautonomia (the sweats) [see the glossary and the archives] is a commonly associated mechanism with bracing since they both are caused by the same thing.
Let us know how you do.
