I need suggestions...I don't wish to lose my husband to one of his reactions or to a liver or kidney problem due to the three times the FDA approved dosage of Zyrtec on top of one Claritin w/50mg Benadryl's prescribed to him for breakthrough symptoms, that he takes daily! We have tried soooo many things and nothing works. The medication doesn't even keep the symptoms at bay. He may not have the huge visible welts that cover his whole body....BUT he does still continue to have the Anaphylactic shock episodes. A total of 6 trips to the E.R. for oxygen and shots of Epidrine to keep him from literally dying. He itches literally 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week. It is driving him OUT OF HIS MIND!!! With absolutely no exaggeration in my comments. He was never a stressed person... probably one of the most relaxed! Now, he is depressed and has contemplated hurting himself. Listen, there has got to be something that he can do. Every blood test that could be run has been done, Every medicine has been prescribed, Every test has been run, what else? I just don't know and I don't want to lose my husband! We may be extremely limited on the amount of money that we can put out, but I WILL NOT LOSE MY HUSBAND TO THIS. If, I have to go to the ends of the earth via WWW, I will! Please respond if you have any clues to help with!

Danielle,
I hope your husband will look into the wellness information on this 'site. I wondered a couple things: Will the Benadryl without the Claritin do as much to prevent an episode of shock? I understand your concern about so much medicine. Has he discussed with his doc about possibility of keeping Epinephrine at home so he can administer it more quickly if/when he needs it?
Stress is more than lack of relaxation - Dr. Stoll has a good article about it you can find on this site. Of course by now I'm sure he must be stressed out about his health.
And there's a lot your husband can learn to improve his health if he'll dive into the info on this 'site. I put a link below to archives on urticaria. Using the glossary/reference guide/search feature to read about allergies, diet, skilled relaxation and anything else relevant will help in seeing a bigger picture.
Hope others have something to add to this. The ideas recommended for many health problems on Dr. Stoll's site usually cost little or nothing - moneywise - but just the expenditure of time and effort.

Hi, Danielle.
Sorry to disagree with your assessment of "stress" but you both are wrong about this. Until you do a 180 degree about face and begin to understand that he has just suppressed his stress effect, he will continue to get worse.

Hi Danielle,
Since Dr. Stoll emphasizes SR (skilled relaxation) - as he always does - let me give you a short-cut suggestion to it. Go to your library (or buy if you wish) the book: The Relaxation @ Stress Reduction Workbook, by Davis, Eshelman, McKay. This book has been highly recommended by Dr. Stoll for some time. (I also own a copy.) It is one of the most definitive books on any and all meditation techniques. Very easy to read and follow. It even has a questionaire and chart to help you decide which meditation is most suited for your particular problem.
This will get you and your husband started right away while you read through the archives and get the bigger picture of what he needs to do. The "remedy" will not be just one thing nor will it happen overnight, but it will aid in his recovery and lay a solid foundation for his continued health later on.
Go to the Glossary - scroll down one page and see "3-Legged Stool". Please read that first in addition to your husband's particular health problem. There is a gold mine of information here, just waiting to be discovered. (The book I mentioned is also listed there.)
Always remember to learn all you can about a problem. That way, you'll know what's going on, be able to ask informed questions and maybe be a little skeptical when things don't add up. It puts you in control!
Good luck!
Rosemarie

I am wondering if it might be worth a try to also (in addition to faithfully practicing SR), totally eliminating all casein (milk products) and gluten (wheat and other gluten containing grains). You said you had all tests run, and I'm assuming he had allergy tests run, BUT you can still have severe reactions to casein and gluten that are not allergy related but due to LGS (leaky gut syndrome). By TOTALLY eliminating all traces of these foods, you may notice immediate relief so this is worth a try. If this works, please just think of it as a "booster" and not a "cure" because he will need faithful SR for a cure. In order for you husband to have the problems he is having, he MUST have LGS, and possibly CR-S. Please read the archives about SR, LGS, and ALLERGY. Ester-C (Esterified Vitamin C) is good for allergies as well as overall health. You can find the protocal for that on this site too.
Good luck, we're here to help.

I thank you both for the suggestions...I am heading to the Library tonight to look into the books. We also found out that the one thing that he hasn't been tested for is H. Pylori. I have been researching this subject everyday and found an article in the Inrenational Medical News that connects H. Pylori with Chronic Urticaria and angiodema. He is a sufferer of IBS. So, we are asking that they test him with a C-Urea test also to see if maybe we can connect the two. I am looking into EVERYTHING... Thank-you again for you time and suggestion. I will be in touch!

I had been suffering from chronic hives for 9 months. I itched every day all day. Like everyone else I took every possible antihistamine and had lots of blood tests done. I went to 5 different doctors and nothing would help. Last month I went to an allergist who put me on 8 antihistamines a day and my hives were just as bad so I quit taking them. When I suggested it might be stress, he said there was no evidence that stress could cause them and that I needed to do allergy tests. I disagreed and started searching the net for a solution. I came upon Dr. Stoll's web page and started taking Vitamin C and B complex. I already work-out 3-4 times a week so I continued to do so, and I started self-relaxation twice a day for 20-30 minutes. In less than two weeks my hives are finally gone, for the first time in 9 months!! I am so happy I came upon his web page. The meditation makes me feel great. I'm happier and more energetic. I will definitely continue with it and pass along the great info. to other sufferers. Thank you so much Dr. Stoll, you are truly helping everyone and doing a great service.

Thanks, Claudia, for your Chronic Hives Testamonial!
I am reminded of someone who called hives a "portable stress indicator". They can come and go soooooo rapidly with stress!
So glad you found this site and an answer to your chronic hives!
